Changing Infinity’s Art Direction With 3D Sculpting
June 22, 2014 by warzan
We interview Carlos Llauger Concept/Graphic Designer & Angel Giraldez Head Painter form Corvus Belli about how the introduction of 3D sculpting has influenced the art direction of Infinity.
Discover how 3D sculpting hasn't just changed the physical appearance of miniatures but the methods used by Angel for painting them as-well. For example check out the old and now new PanOceania Blue Paint Scheme below.
The interview was shot in Granada Spain on a hotel roof top during this years FicZone which was the venue for a great Infinity tournament organised by the Spanish distributor Dia Cash. Watch out for upcoming coverage of the tournament in the future.

Fascinating. I never tire of learning about the behind the scenes processes and decisions.
really interesting video 🙂
I like what they were saying about how they’re sculpting the armour now 🙂
… and anything that makes it more easy to paint them is good for me ;P ha ha
also it’s cool to see that the hand sculptors learning 3d too 🙂
Infinity have always had some of the best minis out there,
so it will be good to see what he comes up with now 🙂
hmmm… I wonder if any of these have something to do with the new starter set ? 😉
Interesting interview! But I still like the paint job on the old Singh much better than the new.
On that particular model I feel the same. The ethnic sculpt also gives him a more defined character. It shows where he’s from.
For most models, like the Kum, the new art direction is a great improvement though.
I must say that I have had nothing but fun when working with these new 3D sculpted minis. The Tarik kit went together easily and the joins are hardly noticeable. Also seeing the weapons starting to be in scale with the miniature helps out a ton when visually displaying my painted projects.
Carlos, I would like to buy you and the team a beer at Gen Con.
The new style works for me. Interesting to hear the reasons. But as always new and old are in danger of not fitting well together, made worse by the change of weapon design for PanO in this case. And I do not like such visual inconsistency very much. Well, I will cope but not knowing what will be resculpted and what not makes one hesitant to buy miniatures at times. I guess it is a good time to start anew with Infinity.
Brilliant video, I would be all over infinity, but no one in my area seems to be interested in playing unfortunately.
Anyone else notice the obvious tourist? Carlos and Angel stood shivering their knackers off on the roof while Warren just stands there, sleeves rolled up, not even noticing!
Yup I was even breaking a sweat at one point 😉
I just thought it was the wimpy spanish eh? @bostria
@warzan
Yeah, I can watch my nose dripping in the video.
-“Yeah and this (sniff…) is the new art direction (snifff…) because 3D modelling (sniff…) has taken us to a new (sniff..)…”
@Warzan,
Why is Bostria only worth 50p!! This man is a god amongst men, please sought it out like I know you can. He is at least worth 40,000p 😉
If you could get him to do a weather forcast saying freezeio it would be worth it too. Hehe. 😀
that was a great video, now! what is the price to become a backstage member in USD?
