I wanted the colors to really pop. I wasn’t disappointed. I wanted the colors to really pop. I wasn’t disappointed.
Side note: it finally clicked that grates and manhole covers are usually more brown than silver: so gunmetal, then nuln oil (missing here), then a final wash of Vallejo wood grain and I’m a happy man. Also, for anyone frustrated by yellow: start with an orange-brown and then highlight with orange before a final highlight or two with yellow. It goes so much quicker and is actually a lot more satisfying. I’m surprised how much less yellow I use when painting yellow than when I started and also surprised how much less painful it is.
ive had something similar happen with white—I now start with a medium gray and highlight that up and only use white as a final highlight.
