Aeldari & Drukhari Heroes Re-Released For Warhammer 40,000
February 24, 2020 by brennon
Warhammer 40,000 will soon be visited by two re-released heroes this weekend as pre-orders go up for the characters and new troops from The Blood Of The Phoenix. We start with the Aeldari and the release of Jain Zar.
Snag Yourself A New Warhammer 40,000 Army @ Store.OnTableTop
This whirling dervish of deadly blades is a rather good addition to your Aeldari force if you're looking to absolutely master the art of close combat. She can dive right in and hack apart pretty much anything with her weapons. This miniature certainly took the idea of big characters being posed precariously on small bits of masonry to a new level!
As well as Jain Zar you'll also be able to pick up her opposite number from the Drukhari. Here is where Drazhar comes in, a combat master in his own right and looking to claim more spirit stones for his own.
Both of these warriors are fantastic close combat characters and they are now going to be available to everyone without having to snag yourself the larger set. It is nice that Games Workshop eventually releases these miniatures into the wild; you just have to wait a while before you can add them to your army.
These characters are then supported by the release of two new plastic kits for their respective forces. On the one side, you have the Howling Banshees who were in much need of an updated kit...
...and you also have the Incubi who will be bringing their own brand of terror and brutality to the tabletop. Armed with their deadly two-handed weapons they bring an edge of brute strength to a force which is otherwise almost entirely dominated by dexterity and acrobatic guile.
It's nice to see these models finally get released in their own boxes and hopefully there will be more later on down the line to help expand the flagging Xenos factions in Warhammer 40,000.
What do you think of the new re-releases?

Stunning looking figures.
99% of the Eldari are in need of an updated kit … especially their Aspect Warriors.
They’ve been teasing a lot of Eldar stuff with Psychic Awakening, so I imagine that something’s in the works.
we’ve already had Eldar (Phoenix Rising) which brought us the new Banshees + exarch … so unless there’s more coming (always an option) I wouldn’t bet on it.
OTOH … we are getting something for the Orks next.
Fair point, though anything is possible. With how the release schedule is shaping up, we may be getting some more stuff for the orks alongside the new Gaz (WOO!), and the Black Templars are getting a much-needed update as well. I think that GW’s trying to cover all the bases in terms of updates, but they’re spacing it out so everybody gets something. The Tau just got the updated Shadowsun and they haven’t had anything new in a while either, so Eldar may not be too far away.
I’d say that aside from spacemarines and chaos space marines no one has had a major update of their core troops.
True. The problem a lot of the other factions have with their core troops is that outside of updated sculpts, most of them really don’t NEED new core troops because they already have everything they need in terms of equipment and weapon options. That’s part of the reason the Primaris Intercessors were brought in; you can only do so much with a basic Space Marine tactical squad, even with the chapter-specific conversion kits, and they’d exhausted most of their options. I’d be all for updated core troop sculpts for some of the factions (the Eldar could use it, but I’d… Read more »
I’d argue that the spacemarines already had plenty of options : – terminators for the heavy close combat support – beakies as standard troops – scouts as snipers – jump troops for assaults They didn’t need the reivers … because they’re overkill and invalidate the snipers and assault troops in the same way that the primaris standard made the beaky tactical troops useless. Limiting choice and forcing compromise is what makes factions unique. It’s why I don’t mind that Eldar lack cheap/disposable troops, but I do mind that the elite troop options available are ancient resin. I also think that… Read more »
Trying to work out if the Plastics for the Eldar Guardians are the “oldest” plastics in 40K (they must be25 years old now). I think the Zombies are the oldest for the fantasy genre (complete with those pizza paddle hands).
It’s weird how GW just leave some lines alone for decades, yet others seem to get re-done on a regular basis (perhaps this is the reason why SM are so popular these days, it’s rare to see Xenos on the table down at the club these days)
IMHO GW could have used the great chaos invasion as an excuse to squat a few more factions (like the T’au, Tyranids and Necrons) and thus focus on ensuring all remaining factions had a complete range in minis available …
I think both Imperial Guard and ORks have a few ancient models as well.
oldest plastic is eldar, the viper was sculpted for second edition and released either late 96 or early 97, can’t remember which. Nothing else comes close to it and it’s floating friend the Grav
