Deffdread by firelock22

We start off this week's peek into what you've been painting with a miniature that immediately caught my eye. Here we have a stonking great big Deffdread from firelock22 which has been painted up in a very dark and foreboding black scheme to make it even more menacing.

I really like the way that the black had been painted here, mixing in plenty of metallic elements here and there in order to give it the impression of a well-used machine of war. Playing as Orks also gives you some licence to be a bit quirky and I like that we're still seeing the signs of personalisation on the hull, especially around the shoulder pads. That checked pattern must have been hard to paint!

I also like that we're seeing some dried blood and gore worked into the weapons of this machine. You get the sense that the poor Gretchin riding the back of this rig has had to get the rag out quite a few times in order to try and keep it clean for his master.  The back of the walker is equally nicely detailed and packed with all sorts of fun little drops of colour to break up the black.

The contrast that you get with the very bright looking base is also nice to see as it helps the miniature stand out on the tabletop a little bit more. I had always thought it would be fun to run an army entirely made up of Gretchin and big walkers, simply for the comic factor, and I think this particular painting project has got me thinking about that idea again.

Darth Vader by panzerkaput

We're now moving from a grimdark Sci-Fi world to one which is equally as iconic. Here we have a take on the main man himself, Darth Vader, painted by panzerkaput.

Once again we're seeing a really nice approach to painting black which takes it up a level just enough so that the dark and shadowy nature of the character is preserved whilst also allowing you the chance to see the depth and detail of the sculpt. I never tire of seeing people paint up this iconic character from the Star Wars universe.

Another good thing about painting up Jedi and Sith is that you get to try your hand at a bit of object source lighting too. You can see the subtle touch here and there that panzerkaput has added into the mix.

The pictures are a little blurry but you get the general idea of what you're looking at. It's hard to focus on specific areas of a miniature sometimes but I really like how Darth Vader has turned out here. I would certainly be proud to follow him into battle although I don't think I'd actually get much of a choice in the matter.

WWII Brits by yoshi

Finally, we're moving over to the What Are You Painting Now? thread for this one. We tend to try and only pick from the projects but I saw this work by yoshi and had to give it a thumbs up! Hopefully, you folks can get yoshi to make a project and share this work there so we can see it all in one place! Say hello to more plucky British soldiers from World War II.

I really liked these models because of the amount of detail that has been worked into the sculpts. The amount of extra work that has gone into the camouflage, in particular, is immense and I love that it has even been outlined in places rather than just blended on. This level of detail continues throughout the paint job onto the weapons and accessories too.

I think I would be very proud to have these particular characters dropping into battle to fight alongside an expanded Allied force. Those berets mark them out as plucky and daring individuals and I'm glad that they both have very neat moustaches too (oh yeah, those look really detailed too!). Every self-respecting British soldier in WWII needs a good bit of facial hair!

The basing is also really neat, giving you the impression that it would fit into both a rural and urban setting. I think it would be great to see more of yoshi's work in a gallery in the projects!
