The team behind Quest were looking for a beginner-friendly way to introduce people to roleplaying games on the tabletop which can be quite a daunting task. After a successful Kickstarter, the team are now getting ready to launch the book to the masses.

Quest Game Book

Quest is a game which is incredibly inviting and acts as a proper primer for roleplaying at the tabletop. Each page of the book is set up as a guide which introduces the concepts of roleplaying, the way you make characters, the mechanics for combat and solving problems as well as then throwing a few more elements into the mix.

This isn't to say that Quest is simple. There is a nice depth to the way that your characters develop and unlock special abilities which are tied to their role within the group. These abilities form the backbone of your character and range from the simple through to the powerful 'limit breaks' which allow you to cause havoc in a scrap.

The mechanics are run through the roll of a single d20 where success occurs often but sometimes with complications. After all, even the best sword strike against your foe can produce exceptional outcomes.

I can see Quest also being a nice roleplaying game for those who also want to forget the tables, charts and multitudes of actions you can take during play. The simple nature of some roleplaying games can actually be quite freeing and it's often good to play something as straight forward and open-ended as Quest before diving back into a more crunchy set of mechanics.

I really liked the idea of Quest back when it was on Kickstarter and I could well see myself picking up a copy of this book for myself now. I tend to collect roleplaying games and Quest seems to have hit the right note with a lot of the tabletop roleplaying game community which always pricks up the ears!

Are you tempted to give this a go?
