The Wolsung Demo Game Part 2 – The Spiffing Grand Finale!
June 22, 2014 by dignity
Welcome back to part two of the epic Wolsung demo game. Time to finish what has been one of the most fun games the guys have played all year, but who will be the winner? Will it be Warren with his crazy Inventors Club? Will it be Sam and the mysterious members of the Triad of the Lotus Dragon? Or will the day be won by Justin and the rather spiffing Ash and Oak Club?
If you're feeling the need to take the plunge, you have two options as of today:
1. Head on over to the Micro Art Studio store and grab your starter faction!
2. Check out the fantastic Wolsung Kickstarter that's running right now!

I love that terrain! Bid!
looks like a fun game 🙂
Gonna stop watching BoW vids. The winner is getting to be far, far to predictable. lol
lol – I think everyone was a winner in that game – ok maybe not Justin.
Obviously as we play it more we’ll refine the missions and narrative, but I feel this little demo shows the fun and multiplayer aspects of the game really well 🙂
Since recording this, I’ve become a big big fan 🙂
I did really enjoy the video. Was a great laugh.
😀
Lol
It does look like a stupidly fun game. 🙂
I think you need someone new to pick on though. Justin is to easy a target these days. Lol
“I think you need someone new to pick on though”
That would be me then as I’m next in line 😉
This mission would only need the addition of you trying to get off the board with the diamond with two angry gangs on your heels. That should be at least another two rounds of hilarious fun.
Eh . . . you may have a point, @tasker . I’ve watched a lot of BoW demo games (okay, maybe not all), and I’ve only seen Warren lose . . . twice? One Mercs game (I think) and the FoW FTW season 1 finale vs. Dave and his Irish Guards.
A bit of a ‘king maker’ feel to this video… Justin got thrashed on. Feel sorry for him.
You cannot fault his courage though, he does get stuck in! 🙂 (And I don’t mean the goat!)
yep, always jumps in feet first … ankle deep 😉
I think the true winner was the goat. At least it has been freed from the unmentionable horrors of the Ash and Oak club.
Sounds like an interesting club to visit. 😀
Not if your a goat
I think the rather agreeable presence of that maid helps slightly in counterbalancing the goat’s presence. But what kills it for me is the fact that whe you step OUT of the club, there’s a mirror golem on the rooftop ready fry your a$$ with a reflected laser beam!! :O. Excuse me, sir, but did you forget to settle your bill?
You may prefer being shot rather than be seen by the wife coming out of that club especially if she sees how much you spent on a goat and maid with a duster 🙂
Another very entertaining video and the game looks like enormous fun. It is cinematic. The table looks utterly fabulous.
Poor doggies…
Yep, you should be allowed to throw alive/dead/undead/plastinated bodies everywhere. Great game, i really like how easy was to understand everything you do without having to read the rules. i’ll be checking that pdf and maybe try out a demo game during the week, i hope Wolsung release some pdf print&play, that would be amazing and very helpful!
pdf print&play? Could you specify what should be in such a pdf and I’ll see about it 🙂
The quick rules that you already have plus counters, templates ( if needed ), stat cards ( as long as is readable that’s more than enough ) and most importantly paper stand-up miniatures ( like this ones from Last Saga’s kickstarter print&play : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ugkzw40cgv9b8am/AACyVskU8rAmx8mbCB5on7Hpa/The%20Council.pdf )
If is possible to add terrain that will be even better, maybe we could get a basic pledge or stretch goal that incluse printable papercraft terrain ( just basic blocking buildings and boxes will be more than enough for that ).
A complete example will something like this from Iron Kingdoms : http://files.privateerpress.com/ironkingdoms/documents/adventures/IKRPG_Scenario_Fools_Rush_In.pdf
The game looked great, I’ve bid on it 🙂
Hehe, I figured Warzan would hang back and let the other two fight it out over the livestock…
Already picked up the rules, only thing to do now is drop some cash on the kickstarter. Superb game. Well done Micro Art and thanks for the demo guys.
If only justin could have thrown the dead bodies of sam’s minions, would have made it difference, or if he could use a dead body as a meat shield against warzan’s shooting!
RAW the model killed is removed from the game so there’s nothing to throw with. The best models to throw with are Hard to Kill models (can I say… Zombies?) as when they are killed they are left at 1 Wound remaining instead, the perfect amount to throw with 😀
The game however should never be played too stiffly and it benefits greatly from a narrative and players’ ideas. So I’d say if you find throwing dead bodies appealing to you and your mates are understanding and agree to it then go for it!
Wolsung looks like a blast!
Does Justin’s goat come with its own stat card?
I wonder if it has the “distraction” ability, like the maid ? 😛 ha ha
This game looks like brilliant fun and every video you guys make with your awesome terrain/s makes me SO jealous!
I am completely sold on Wolsung now.
MB.
Augh, Justin! A classic case of don’t announce your action before your turn no matter how good it makes you feel! From what I can tell, if he hadn’t said anything about his big melee guy getting back up again thanks to his special “Hard to Kill” ability, Sam might have used his activation to attack Warren, then Justin ogre’s would have gotten up behind Sam’s “squishy” assailants with his one health point. Warren still probably would have won (he already had one figure pretty much adjacent to the diamond with another ready to support), but we’d already seen what… Read more »
Some really neat design ideas with the cards. I like how each character has a suit, and how the player sometimes needs a card in that suit to activate a character’s ability. I assume that “shooty” characters have clubs or spades as suits? This would allow them to NOT spend red cards on abilities, thus enhancing their effective “shootiness” by reserving red suits to enhance ranged attacks? The card suit can thus pre-design some of the character’s advantages and flaws (slow characters can have spades or clubs, thus reducing the cards they can usually spend on movement, etc).
where did you get the toppled/mist templates? really think they might come in handy for when my kickstarter arrives!
I like the initiative mechanism. It could be used to spice up any alternate activation -based game, and would help to alleviate the problems related to the base mechanism.
Looks like absolutely bags of fun. The table is mental, very nice
Great scenery . Can you tell me where to get the train from for my war game/skirmish board thanks in advance.
