Bunnies vs Zombies Gets the Axe
June 17, 2014 by stvitusdancern
The Kickstarter project by Ninja Division, Bunnies vs Zombies has been cancelled as of last night. Not much of a reason was given, all that was stated in the email from Kickstarter web page was this short announcement:
Ninja Division is looking forward to the prospect of creating a dynamic board game that puts Bunny Heroes against the Zombie Horde. We feel there is an opportunity to expand the content of this game and create an animated play experience.
I do not know about some of you, but I am a little disappointed by this. We backed this project from the first day. After the experience we had with the Kickstarter from a couple of months ago of theirs: Super Dungeon Explore: Forgotten King which was wonderful, we were hoping to do the same on this one. I know for a hardcore miniature war gamer these kind of games might not me your cup of tea, but they are a nice change of pace when you just want to hang out with your family or mates have a few pints and play something easy and fun.
Maybe we should have taken this to be an omen. But seriously, having met the guys at Ninja Division, I can tell you they are very passionate about their products and will be working diligently on either bring Bunnies vs Zombies back in a better form or have something even better for us.
Were you a backer like us and are disappointed about this project being cancelled? Will you back the next project?

It stalled and started going backwards at $35k, well short of its $50k target which itself was probably much less than the actual target it needed to hit. I think a combination of lack of build up coupled with charging $80 plus shipping for what seemed like a pick up game is what did for it. Unfortunately it now looks like it’s been removed from ND’s GenCon events schedule. I’ll have to fill my Saturday afternoon hole with something else now lol.
I never had any interest in this since I backed SDE so heavily I lacked funds to get in on the bunny fun anyway. I know some backers of SDE were upset at the development of a new kickstarter before the other has been completed and I can certainly understand that sentiment.
Bunnies Vs Zombies isn’t actually Sodapop game 😛
it’s a Ninja Division game, Sodapop just helped with some of the minis …,
95% of the team working on it is different, different artists, rules guys, designers etc,
… I knows, I have secret knowledge ;P ha ha
So odd O.o i really didn’t expect to heard this, is not my cup of tea but it looked a lot of fun and madness, hope they will come back soon, looks great for a entry game.
It was an interesting project but not getting funded in the first day or two meant it was going to only just scrape into funding if at all. There were a couple of miss steps as well early on – eg the first game mode they showed in detail required additional buys to get the full experience. Really needed a game play vid as well.
All the same will keep an eye out for its return :). Lots more competition and expectations on KS nower days 😉
Well if it stalled then perhaps a re-think on their approach was needed or maybe some element of doubt crept in about the project in some fashion. Not really my thing but I’m sure it’ll be back in some form once they’ve had a re-think. As an aside perhaps people are starting to feel a little zombied out, there’s so many zombie games out there already. I’m sad to confess, for I love zombies too, but my first thought when hearing news on this was ‘Oh look, another Zombie game’ and the bunnies just didn’t hook me into it…though maybe… Read more »
We’ll see how zombied out the market is in a few weeks when Zombicide 3 launches on KS. I personally believe a strong product well-marketed will succeed regardless.
It think its also perhaps ND biting off more then it can chew right now, after all its taking over RK from the mess that CMoN have left that in, as well as other projects.
I also think as someone said perhaps a new publisher such as ND should focus on full completion of one KS before moving on to their next one.

As @motioninpoetry has said, Ninja Division is an umbrella company. SDE is by Soda Pop who don’t have much involvement with this project. I don’t think that’s been a big factor in its failure but it would be a shame if it was.
This makes me sad. Was actually the first KS my wife was planning on backing!
I was looking forward to this game – but I didn’t back it as it only had a few days left and was way of its target 🙁 so I had a gut feeling this was going to happen. Hopefully it comes back with a proper promotion and support 😀
