Add A Frankish Hero To Your Games Of SAGA
June 17, 2014 by brennon
Gripping Beast have added another legendary figure to their line up of heroes for use in SAGA. This time it's Roland of the Franks and the rules for him appear in Raven's Shadow...
Roland is quite the hero and he appears in a whole bunch of medieval texts and a saga too. He was part of the court of Charlamagne and not only had himself a legendary sword named Durendal but also a horse called Veillantif. The most iconic part of the miniature and his character however is the oliphant horn he blew at his death as a call for aid.
Quite the awesome character and I think this historical representation of him fits well with the stories and doesn't romanticise him which is something we see of a lot of heroes from this time later on in history.
What do you think?

Excellently detailed mini that has been beautifully painted. I really like Gripping Beasts miniatures. However, I wish they would also do a another version of Rolland where he looks like he is engaging in combat.
Sadly for him his oliphant blowing fell on deaf ears. I always pick up the heroes of the dark age models regardless. I just like to collect them.
Nice sculpt. Some of their figures lately have had questionable proportions i.e. heads too big, which made the legs look too short. This one seems spot on.
nice mini
