Fria Ligan recently plunged themselves back into the world of Symbaroum which is a fascinating Fantasy world which is rich and interesting for roleplaying. And, currently, you can pick up a digital version of the Core Rulebook for free over on DriveThruRPG.
For those unaware of Symbaroum and the world here is a little bit of a breakdown for you...
"Symbaroum invites you to join in the adventure! Explore the vast Forest of Davokar in the hunt for treasures, lost wisdom and fame. Visit the eleven barbarian clans to trade or to plunder their treasuries. Establish a base of power among princes, guilds or rebellious refugees in the capital city of Yndaros.
Or survive encounters with famished Arch Trolls, dark-minded Blight Beasts and undead warlords. But whatever you do, never ignore the warnings spoken by the wardens of the forest: tread carefully and do not disturb the ruins of old, for the dark deep of Davokar, is about to awaken."
The world is one populated with dark creatures, grim characters and plenty of absolutely stunning artwork as well which really draws you into the world. Plus, currently (at the time of writing) it's free!
- A fast-paced and flexible rule-set for creating player characters and acting in the game world
- 5 playable races and 3 archetypes, divided into 15 occupations, as a basis for character creation
- 35 abilities, 25 mystical powers, 33 rituals and a large number of weapons and armours to make each character unique
- Detailed guidelines for how to create adventures; 38 monsters and adversaries, and 19 monstrous traits to arm the characters’ enemies with

This is a game I’m planning to run down the line. I have all of their books so far and the artwork is amazing from start to finish.
sounds good an a tempting adventure.
We’ve had a few games of Symbaroum now and as a group really enjoy it. It’s a very atmospheric, deep and rich world.
As mentioned the artwork is great.
The system is lovely and smooth with all of the rolls made by the players which is nice and different (because we all know GMs cheat behind their little screens)
Magic is dealt with in an interesting way which makes you think twice before using it.
If you are after a different fantasy RPG that is gritty and brutal, replacing the sheen of high fantasy then give this a go.
Looks like we missed the offer, the english rulebook is £19.95. The Swedish language version is free however.
The offer was only valid for 24 hours and expired Thursday January 30.
Depending on your timezone there was a chance of getting it today.
I got lucky because I had an email via OneBookShelf/DriveThruRPG from Free League Publishing.
