Prepare For Victory At Sea From Warlord Games Soon
January 29, 2020 by brennon
Warlord Games has been teasing that there is something new coming for those who want to engage on the high seas during the battle for the Pacific during World War II. Here we have a little peek at Victory At Sea.
So, from what we're seeing here this is going to be a set up for a clash between US and Japanese forces during the fight for the Pacific. One would assume we're going to see some appropriately scaled and proportioned ships that are building on the range Warlord already produce.
This is building on the original Mongoose Publishing game, Victory At Sea, which we heard that Warlord Games had control of a few years ago now. It seems like now things have moved to the stage where they can get stuck in and share more on the project.
The fight for the Pacific was quite the naval feat and there were plenty of victories and defeats on both sides. It should be a prime opportunity to dive in and enjoy some naval gameplay, be it straight up battles between fleets or ambushes where planes are seeking out your ships to scuttle them.
Hopefully, we'll hear more about the set soon!

It is a shame you can’t read the scale on the box cover. Will be interesting to see what they do with it.
Seen some better images and it is 1/1800 scale, as per the original release

That’s still going to make the ships very big
I believe the big battleships will be up to 15cm in length. This is the same scale as the ones from Axis and Allies that the original rules used.
I hope they stick with 1/3000 scale and don’t try and pull an exclusive scale on us again, like they’ve been doing with black sails…
They’ll probably try 1/2000 or something silly
Yes, that’s something that really bothers me about their business model. In these cases I will probably just buy the rules and use my own models, instead of buying models from them as well.
to be fair, 1/700 age of sail did exist before Warlord. And there’s like 4 other manufacturers total. Far from anything being the “standard” scale when it’s that underserved.
if the rules are not just rolling a bucket of dice, I will just rescale the charts to go with my 1/2400 fleet.
Everything I’ve seen online about it is in Spanish
Si senor
If it’s popped out in this teaser format then there will certainly be an update from Warlord very soon.
Mongoose has had a playtest version up for about a year now on their forums. The files are even formatted.
This could be a good game I don’t know never played.
I am super interested in seeing how this turns out!
I think 1/6000 would be the best given the distances involved in the pacific war
Damn you Warlord, you really are making my wallet bleed. it made years I am resisting the naval gaming
Seeing pre-orders already up for:
Starter Box
US Navy Fleet Box
Royal Navy Fleet Box
Kriegsmarine Fleet Box
IJN Fleet Box
Yamato
Bismarck
Warspite
Idaho
No word on scale…
I hope it’s still 1/1800 scale, the scale that Victory at Sea was slated for when it was released by Mongoose Publishing in the early 2000s.
It seems to be a scale where anything smaller than a battleship is still visible to the naked eye, and is not entirely novel or reserved for boomers, seeing as it was the same scale as Axis & Allies: War at Sea, and the upcoming ruleset from Fireforge Games, i.e. more accessible naval gaming.
1/800 would make something like the Bismarck about 30cm long which to my mind would be completely useless for wargaming
I fully agree that 1/800 is far too large.
However, seeing as you were responding to my comment, perhaps you might have misread that I had said 1/1800, and not 1/800?
So this is where Victory at Sea 2(+) final turns up. About time to, but no real surprise given than Warlord is working its way through Mongoose’s miniatures catalogue. Hopefully things have been learnt from SPQR’s launch last year at the rules have been written up properly. On the other hand VaS has had years of play testing. Not really a surprise either as Warlord over the past couple of years always seems to launch a game after some competitor announces they are working on something similar, in this case Fireforge and their WW2 naval game. The old VaS could… Read more »
I don’t think Warlord trigger a new product range when they hear of another company doing one (after Cruel Seas, it was likely they were going to continue with all things Naval as it’s been a much ignored period over the past 30 years). Rather it’s probably in the realm that they have it on their calendar of releases (this could be years ahead), and when someone releases a possible competing product they “shuffle” things around to get it released pronto. If another manufacturer gets in there first, it’s always harder for later lines to establish a market hold (as… Read more »
