Gloomhaven Proxy Project Pt.1 - Miniatures

So, here I am setting up my very first OTT project and penning my first blog entry with mixed thoughts and feelings…

Part of me is wondering why I’ve suddenly felt the urge to do this after having set myself on this course a mere 18 months ago and – thus far – having very little other than a rather large pile of plastic shame nesting comfortably in the loft to show for it.

Another part of me is wondering why anyone would want to read about or be interested in what I’m getting up to and how my ‘little’ self-appointed mission is progressing. I’m a lapsed 90’s GW dungeon crawl and tabletop childhood fan who’s just getting back into the hobby after a 25+year break. In that time I’ve not picked up a paint brush and can barely remember which way to hold a rattle can. If you’re here expecting the finest quality paint jobs you ever did see I’m afraid you may end up a little disappointed.

That said, if you can relate to the feeling of having something reignite a long forgotten passion and then unwantonly throwing yourself into it without any regard for the magnitude of the investment you’ve signed up for then maybe you’ll appreciate this journey as well.

I guess my personal reasons for wanting to create this project are twofold. First, I’m hoping that doing this will push me to find more time to Hobby as my current everyday life really doesn’t afford me much. Secondly, I’m hoping that I can look back on this at some point and see the progress I’ve made from where I started and remind myself that if I ever get an urge to undertake something as idiotic as this again to just tell myself ‘No’!!!!!!

On a slightly more selfless note, if for some reason you have a similar compulsion to replace 240 boardgame components with larger, heavier and vastly more expensive versions of what you already have then I hope this Project will serve as a source of reference for you to ease the journey a little as well as reassure you that you’re not the only one with this particular disfunction!!!

I guess it’s probably also a convenient time to mention that I haven’t only decided to proxy the standees in Gloomhaven – I’m also working on doing the same with the boards and terrain here.

If you’ve stuck with me this far then I’d like to say ‘thank you’ and to also promise that I’ll try to keep future updates a bit less wordy – I wasn’t really sure how to start this whole thing off but now I’m past that I’ll do my best to keep this on point.
