Unboxing Marvel: Crisis Protocol – Black Panther & Killmonger
January 22, 2020 by avernos
Gerry is back to look at more Marvel: Crisis Protocol with the Black Panther & Killmonger expansion.
Atomic Mass Games have started to bring over characters from Black panther into Crisis Protocol. The King of Wakanda and N'Jadaka have nice dynamic poses. What is most exciting is that the latter has a vibranium kitty to scratch at closed doors. Crucially these models in addition to the Shuri and Okoye models have the Wakanda affiliation which can allow some tasty abilities.
What characters would you team these pair up with?
Always thought of black panther as a bit of a pointless hero… he’s essentially Wolverine (with less anger and less personality) for the Avengers, before Wolverine joined the Avengers.
Black Panther is the first superhero of African descent in mainstream American comics, having debuted in 1966, so during the civil rights movement.
From the YouTube channels that I follow in the US, he is seen as very important by the African American community, especially those that are into “nerdy things”.
It is one of the reasons that the film did so well in the US, with some wealthy people booking out entire showings so that people that couldn’t afford to see the film could go.
Agreed 🙂 Very important character and a great role model (for all kids regardless of colour – my two boys love his character) – but particularly important for young black children, to see not only a Supe they may identify more closely with but also the technical aspects of the character and his background are really interesting and tell a great alternative story of Africa. And whos to say if things on this planet had worked differently in the past, it could well have been Africa that was a technological super power. There are lots of different reasons folks can… Read more »
All I was saying is that he felt like a cheap knock off to me.
People can like who they want…. and given the price of the Marvel Crisis minis I will be very selective over who I choose to buy.
As for the movies… there were good one and bad ones… and several of the solo movies were a dull in my opinion…. supers are more entertaining as a team.
Well he couldn’t be a knock off of Wolverine as that character didn’t appear until 1974. But lots of comic characters start as knock offs of others, then develop their own character over time.
Sorry if I came across as being harsh – tone can be a difficult thing to get across on the interwebs.
I mean sure, he uses claws, but that’s about the end of the similarities I think. Beyond that, he’s got a lot of personality differences with Wolverine (as you pointed out) and the way in which he is gifted his powers is pretty different too.
In some ways he’s like Ironman, but melee focused instead of ranged… without the suit he’s just a guy with some athletic training. And Ironman (as played by Robert Downey) is a far more interesting character than a panther. But clearly the rest of the planet is against me as I seem to be the only one that thought the panther movie was boring. Mind you… people raved about Spiderman Far From Home, but I felt that was weak once we found out that the villain was just a bunch of Marvel movie rejects and failures trying to steal Stark… Read more »
Don’t know if Gerry has figured this out yet or not but Atomic Mass clearly watched his video on the core box. The assembly instructions for that AND for this that they have on their website include the piece numbers from the sprue in the diagrams. It hasn’t made it into the printed version but good on you Gerry for getting them to sit up and take notice!
I heard about it, and that they still mislabelled the core box build guide so that has to be done again.
Hmm. It worked for me. There was some room for improvement still (a couple of steps where they had a number wrong or didn’t have a number) so not perfect but definitely an improvement. Doc Oc particularly was better.
Finally got a game with my starter set last night. Loved the game and am definitely going to drain the wallet and expand my collection. Thanks for showing these off @avernos!
a great detailed video of the character’s.
@avernos I thought the cat was a statue and his foot rests on it. It looks like it belongs on the building from Ghostbusters.
it’s certainly a possibility
Nobody brings minis to life like Gerry.
