DUST Tactics & Battlefield Gameplay Demo!
June 11, 2014 by brennon
If you wanted to learn about how easy it is to play DUST Tactics and Battlefield then you might want to check out the video above which delves into how to play both of these games set in the same expansive universe that is on Kickstarter right now as Operation Babylon...
The narrator goes through how to examine a unit card, how to move, fire and fight in the game and more in a nice condensed format. Simple but effective is the name of the day!
Give the video a watch and see what you think about the different versions of the game. The real question after this is which version YOU will be playing. Do you reckon you and your friends will take more to Tactics with its boardgame style structure or Battlefield on massive boards?

Very good overview of both systems. I will be switching from playing dust tactics to dust battlefield. I much prefer to play on a gaming table than the grid system.
I like how you can convert from one type of play to the other. I am very excited about this game. I might have to up my pledge again!
I am already pledging on this myself. The Kickstarter is doing pretty well – however, if it reaches 375 k, which it should, the bonuses start to become very enticing. Effectively pledgers start to get free walkers.
Thats a really good vid showing the basics of Dust. That’s what I like about the game, it’s simple to learn as there is only the one mechanism to know.
The only pity is that this video should have been up from the beginning. And they should have indicated the BOW demo game as an example even if it is not the V2 rules (not 100% sure but with Warren involved you never can tell).
The postage on this KS is pretty neat too which pleases me enormously – more money for minis!
Yup it was the V2 Rules 🙂 (Mostly anyway!)
Should anything be read into the video showing just primed figures in the Dust Tactics section and nicely painted figures in Dust Warfare? 🙂
@torros I would say they are trying to highlight the more casual element of tactics while emphasising the more hobby or gamer aspect of Battlefield.
That would be my guess anyway.
Cool video, nice and concise. All three Dust games — Tactics, Battlefield and Warfare — are pretty easy to learn, but hard to master: a hallmark of a great game. 🙂
I was very hesitant about getting into this game, but after watching this video decided to pick up the Warfare PDFs, though not sure if they can still be used for the game now, but at least they’re good to get sucked in by the lore… which I have been.
Now I just have no idea which faction to pick up.
The Warfare PDFs can absolutely be used to play Warfare! I recommend buying the Force Decks if you really get into the game, because playing Warfare is soooo much faster with cards. The nice thing is that the minis that you buy for Warfare can also be used for Tactics or Battlefield if you decide to try them. No need to re-buy your army, you just need the Tactics 2.0 book (or download the rules) cards for your faction, templates and dice. 🙂 The general wargaming advice of “Buy what looks cool” can apply to Dust, but to be a… Read more »
Thanks for the advice, I will certainly look into getting the Force Decks.
And after reading the lore, looking at the models, and your (and a few other people’s) run down on the factions, I’m going to order an Allied force. Though the Axis’ lasers and super gorillas did tempt me!
Why did they bother to put the crosshair symbol there as it doesn’t appear to do anything?
I get special dice when they actually do something that can’t be replicated easily with normal dice. But this is just 5+ and 3+ with normal dice…
And Battlefield allows me to reuse the AT 43 tape measures (of which I have many), as they are n 10cm bands.
This is a great example of how a short quality video will work to promote your products and generating interest. The longer form videos that are produced here at BoW and others (TableTop) do a great job of filling in the blanks and finalizing the product purchase.
Really good way of breaking down the game and getting people interested. I’m defiantly thinking of looking into it!
Does anyone know if the old minis can be used with the new version?
Absolutely, all models are compatible, and now the Dust Studios collector models (Dust 48) are even useable
