Great Escape Games have built on their World War II range with some 28mm scale Hungarian Cavalry. These Huszár Troop sets come with options for both mounted and unmounted soldiers which you can ride into battle with.

Hungarian Mounted Huszar Troop - Great Escape Games

This particular regiment portrayed here would have comprised of about 3000 men and they took part in various operations across Yugoslavia, the Soviet Union and of course in Hungary itself. The horses would have been very rarely used in actual combat as many of the troops fought on foot, provided in the next option from Great Escape Games.

This did mean that you could rush from place to place upon your horses and then dismount to help where the fighting is thickest. It also means that you can flank your enemies quickly and race for objectives which the enemy might consider well defended.

If you're interested in the Huszars as a force then you can also get an Officer who comes both mounted and dismounted.

So, if you want to fight with some alternative forces during World War II then this might be worth diving into. I don't think we've really seen that many people, at least within the mainstream of WWII wargaming, working on the Hungarians as a mounted force.

What do you make of their offerings?
