My camera averages between 7mb to 10mb per picture. It is a canon m50 mirrorless. Is there any way around this?

Reduce resolution on the camera or use a software tool like Xnview to batch-convert the pictures to smaller sizes.

Hell if nothing else works post it on facey-bee save a copy of the posted image and it is usually at least halved in Mb…. facebook doesn’t want to pay for large images and reduces them automatically

I’m using Irfanview to convert the jpegs from my camera to what I’d consider a ‘normal’ format for websites : 800×600 or 1024×768

It is usually more than enough detail for projects.

It can do batch conversions as well and it is freeware.

And as @sundancer said setting the resolution of your camera and/or picking the jpeg output instead of raw fileformat will do the trick as well.
