The Flash Gitz Iz About For Warhammer 40,000!
June 7, 2014 by brennon
The Flash Gitz are getting ready to lay down a withering amount of firepower for the Ork horde soon with their pre-orders up on the Games Workshop website! See what you think of them below...
These are actually pretty awesome and a big barrel of win when it comes to the Ork hordes of Warhammer 40,000 I think. The whole kit is a multi-part plastic affair so you might be able to mix and match as you see fit and it does come with a nifty Kaptin wearing a rather fetching piratical hat! Who can say no to that!
Do you think you'll be picking up these Flash Gitz?

At least 4 of these are the same pose… and they are a return to the cartoon-style of the early 1990’s though I imagine they will not be at 1990’s prices.
No. Orx for me. And Orcs.
I can’t help thinking they missed the mark here. GW has gone from crazy & funny, yet cool Ork minis, to these wacky and ridiculously over the top sculpts. Wacky and ridiculous is normally a good thing for Orks, but not (IMO) this way… Why? The weapons are just too big! and they have way too much going on. ‘How can that be?’ I hear Ork players cry. Seriously, they ARE far too big – even for Orks. They are too bulky, have too many barrels, and how the heck is the pirate hat leader even holding his weapon one… Read more »
Ridiculous minis. Even for 40k.
I agree, they are all in the same pose and the gun is so big it covers the model. It’s weird, I was looking forward to this release, but definitely feel it needs to be converted to make each one look unique. They remind me of the looters – yes they look cool, but the way the gun is held means they all look the same, especially in a large group. Shame, will pick up a box at some point (too many cool bitz to resist) – but given the size of my back log I’ll be in no rush… Read more »
They have little leather bands attached to gun from their shoulder pads. Thats how they are holding it up. To me they just look like a nob version of a space marine heavy bolter or MM devastator. I am not really seeing where people are saying they look to ridiculous even for Orks? The nob set has just as massive kombi weapons. I dunno all perspective. I have always found HgW models look way better in person then their high angle photos.
GW models. Not HgW models :p
The top two figures I kinda get (weapon size that is) but the bottom three, esp. the Kaptain, are just overdoing it too much. They aren’t even close to Space Marine size…
And what on earth are these Ork Nobz weapons that are this size? Because their Kombi-weapons are half that size. O.o
Still I guess it is different for everyone and if you like ’em, all good! I definitely would be changing them and it sounds like there are enough bits in the box to allow for that, so +1 to GW for that at least.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice set, my favourite bit is the Kaptain’s bionic arm holding out the cutlass – that is cool. The guns are for me too massive, covering most of the detail – and only strength 5?? They should be strength 8 at least!
40K once again move more into the ‘fantasy realm’ with their grim dark universe! Another set of ridulous miniatures for a game I’m so glad I kicked the habit for years ago!
Is the new codex out? No, sso wait and see what happens to the rules for them. They might be superawsomeshamazballs
I agree, the rules may be awesome for these guys, I am just not keen on the sculpts overall. This of course doesn’t have any effect on the way they play within the game, but that really wasn’t the point. 🙂
I’m pretty sure the rules for these were in one of the earlier leaks and the general response from the ork players that saw them were meh. IIRC they cost just over 20pts for an assault 3 AP D6 gun
Meh I really like them – I think they’re awesome with plenty of ‘flashy bitz’ as you might imagine. I think if you painted them more ‘grim’ you’d be fine.
BoW Ben
I don’t think I have the skill as a painter or converter to save these awful miniatures.
I’m probably one of the few people who really loves these guys 🙂
These are perfect for what they represent they are awesome sculpts in my view
The release also hints GW is doing well financially as they can obviously afford to keep the dude who sets the prices in a steady supply of crack – £ 6.40 for a 28 mm plastic model – kinda kills the must buy for me
Static poses are lazy on the designers part, but not sure why all the moaning, THEY’RE ORKS. Big is BETTER. Why *wouldn’t* you fire bullets through a plasma gun? Makes sense to me. From what it looks like, you can custom-build the guns however you wish. Glad to see the good old cartoonish pirate look is making a come back. These guys are Mercs, don’t forget. “Why’s that Ork wearing a pirate hat?” “Because *BOOM* that’s why” Orks are the comedy relief of the 40K universe, glad to see some character back. NOT welcome about the large price hike on… Read more »
I actually quite like these – they’re daft and over exaggerated, but that’s what the Flash Gitz were always intended to be, so it seems fitting.
However… £32. For 5 plastic minis. The phrase ‘no way in hell’ springs to mind.
No more ridiculous than the swords people swing about in every final fantasy game, yet every loves that crap…
I agree with Poosh that it is important to bear in mind that the Orks are, and have always been, the zany comedy relief of 40K, in much the same fashion as the Orcs are for Warhammer. By all means critique the technical execution of the sculpts if you have a problem with it, but saying that an Ork model is too wacky is a bit like saying a Tyranid model is too gribbly; it completely misses the point of the faction fluiff as established by the 40k lore. It is for this reason that I find it amusing that… Read more »
I like the squig… maybe a more uniform paint on the the guns would have made these look better for people. The different sections painted differently shows the size more….
in my very limited opinion
I think they capture what flash gits are perfectly. I don’t understand how else they are meant to be posed, they’re flash but I can’t see them doing cartwheels and matrix like trick shots with all that dakka :;
They fit perfectly with the current range as well, the only thing wrong with them is the damned price. Should be nearer £25 but GW arrogant tax kicks in 🙂
I get that people are defending these miniatures because they are true to the fluff. Thing is, I don’t like the fluff. “Orks are … the zany comic relief of 40k” someone said. Well firstly I don’t think 40k needs zany comic relief any more than 1984’s vision of a dystopian society would have been improved by a custard pie fight and a song and dance routine. Secondly, even if 40k would benefit from comic relief, this is just not comic. This is not what I would call wit or humour. It’s childish and moronic. I’m afraid this new set… Read more »
You are entitled to your taste and aesthetic, but the comedy relief aspect of Orks is pretty much as old as 40K itself, going right back to the early days of the hobby. You may not like that, you may think it unnecessary or even deliterious to the setting, but you can’t say that it is inconsistent with the creative vision behind 40k. It is hardly a new departure. 40K didn’t just ‘get more infantile’ – the Orks have always been this way. You may not reckon much to them, but they have a massive following of dedicated fans, and… Read more »
I’m not saying that orks are “inconsistent with the creative vision behind 40k”, I’m saying that the creative vision behind 40k is inconsistent. 40k’s setting is a mish mash of ideas ranging from the truly brilliant to the totally awful. I just think orks are at the totally awful end of that spectrum.
Yes it’s just my opinion and other people’s opinions are different. I’m just expressing what I think, not making demands, not telling other people what they should think or do.
Your fully entitled to your opinion but I know you have recently found 40k – Orks are and were integral to the very core of the universe and if you ever have the chance to read rogue trader you will see the core of 40k is a mash up of sci-fi references, anarchic black humour and 80’s metal imagery. Yes it has refined over the years but orks are the anarchy in what could otherwise be that grim dark and sterile universe. Long may they live because just the ‘serious’ races would be dull as ditch water. Chaos took a… Read more »
If anything it’s 40K that moved away from the humour of the Orks. It wasn’t always “grimdark”.
I’m honestly not sure what to make of these sculpts, mainly because the photo looks to me like an explosion in a Dulux factory.
@dags I’ve recently returned to wargaming but I did in fact own a copy of Rogue Trader which I bought on the day it was released, slim fully aware of what 40k was like at its inception.
*so I’m fully aware … Stoopid ipad autocorrect 🙁
@erastus Fair enough thought you was a complete new comer and @redben yeah it has become more grim dark, too much so in places its a bit trying to hard to be the grim dark
Orks are some of the most well-loved armies of 40K.
Orks, at the end of the day an army based around UK yob culture – you say it’s “moronic and childish” but it also – unlike a lot of 40K – has actual basis in our current reality.
Orks, unlike every other zzz spacemarine chapter are actually a race on themselves and ALIEN. Why wouldn’t there be an alien race based entirely around violence-for-the-sake-of-it. Play the game Space Marine and you’ll see just how deadly the Orks are, and how they fit into the universe.
I actually really dislike these sculpts as they are infantile and over the top to the point of ridiculousness, also they are all in the same boring pose! The sculpting and painting is first class, but unfortunately I feel grotesquely wasted!
I get the whole Orks are loony so why not have loony BFG’s and there is, at heart, nothing wrong with ridiculously over sized guns. Yes I think they are too big and it got me wondering after reading everyone’s comments why I really thought they were TOO big. It is because they defy belief in the way they are supported – by that I mean how these Orks have been posed carrying them. So perhaps it is more the pose, the impossible way the leader is supporting all that front weight of his weapon with one hand, that is… Read more »
You’re forgetting Orks are actually walking masses of muscle / also, you’re assuming these Orks actually hit anything with their weapons :p
The more I see of the new orks stuff the less I am liking it. I have converted a lot of my nobz in to pirate hats and coats and they look good with a touch of the comedy that is orks but between these new gitz and the fat dwarf who cant get his belly off the floor (Gorka/morkanaught) I am getting really saddened and annoyed to the point of selling them all on
WD specifically says this kit was designed to be bashable with the Nobz kit. That alone makes the cost of the kit worth it to me, all those spare parts to Freeboot up my already super excess parts kit.
I think there great, captures the wanten madness of the Flash Gitz and ties into the Freebootas which have always been a favorite of mine.
I don’t really see any reason to dislike them that much. They look fun and you certainly seem to get a lot of ‘bitz’ for your buck. There’s that much stuff for Ork players out there conversion and parts wise that I would look at it at just another great set of minis to add to what is arguably one of the most well catered for armies by independents out there (here’s looking at you Kromlech!). The great thing about Orks IMO is that there are now so many themes you can choose from (pirate, bionic, cult of speed, big… Read more »
They look pretty much carbon copies of the loota models, not sure what the fuss over the sculpts is. They fit the 3rd to current aesthetic imo. The pricing however, well yeah 5 stormboys, or lootaz/burnasz 15.50 or 5 flash gitz 32.00. It’s not just the expense its the massive inconsistency. Orks will always have a place in my heart, many fond memories but thank god i’ve started playing 1/72 ww2. You can have a skirmish sized army for that.
