D&D 5th Edition Sneak Peeks Start Drifting Out!
June 6, 2014 by brennon
Dungeons & Dragons has been drifting out onto the internet over the past few days with a number of different previews appearing showing off both the Starter Set and the upcoming Players Handbook...
First up we have this look at the first ever copy of the Starter Set to come off the production line! I liked the cover art before but I'm loving it more every time I see it. As well as that they also published the contents page of the Starter Set Rulebook so we can get an idea of just what is inside this set. It looks like some concise and easy to learn D&D rules for both newbies and veterans alike.
As well as the Starter Set Mike Mearls himself drip fed this teaser of the inside of the Players Handbook onto the internet last night. It appears to show off the Warlock career (which is one I wouldn't have thought would be in this edition) and some interesting bits and pieces on wild magic. I also like the style of artwork they're going for here.
Are you excited?

I’ll keep watching the new D&D. But since I have almost all books for 3.5 I doubt very much I’ll bother with buying the new ones.
And what is this thing where people substitute “have” with “of” in sentences? Is that correct english? It feels like when Americans spell missile as missle.
It’s a bad habit of mine that I regrettably haven’t been able to grow out of. But, changed it now 😉
You should see the list with my own bad habits. It’s as long as a dwarf’s beard ;P
I just hope 5ed will move away from the world-of-warcraft-on-paper shite they released last time. I don’t think I liked anything with 4ed. Least of all how they obliterated FR.
Americans don’t spell missile as missle. Where did you get that idea?
From seeing lots of Americans spell missile as missle. I know that’s an incorrect spelling. Perhaps they just missed pressing the i key. Or they have yet again mangled proper English…like they did with aluminium! ;P
To be completely boring, but I remember reading a book a few back on he development of the English Language and it was suggesting that the way Americans pronounce words now were probably due to semi isolation of the colonies the way the British Isles were pronouncing in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Actually that’s pretty interesting =)
I haven’t really played D&D since 2nd edition. Pretty much skipped 3.x, Pathfinder I ran one campaign and 4th ed I never touched apart from occasional book borrowed from the local library. But yeah, I am interested in the coming edition. Even downloaded the playtest rules, but never got around to actually play them. The big sell of 5th edition will be if Wizards decides to revisit and republish the classic campaing settings. At least for me. Forgotten Realms have been pretty much confirmed as the default setting for the new edition and that’s a good move in my book.… Read more »
I am interested in D&D5E but I have invested so much in Pathfinder I don’t know whether I will make the change. Most of what I love about Pathfinder is the setting, less so the game mechanics…
Anything simpler to GM than Pathfinder is a boon, but time will tell whether 5E is worth the investment.
