Battle Sisters, Flyers & Warhammer Animations At 40K Open Day
December 2, 2019 by brennon
Games Workshop has been showing off lots of goodies from the Warhammer 40,000 Open Day that dropped over the past few days. We start with a look at some goodness for the Adepta Sororitas as they look ahead to new releases to bolster their ranks.
Dive Into Warhammer 40,000 @ Store.OnTableTop
Now that is a rather impressive piece that has been added into the mix based on some wonderful artwork from the new Adepta Sororitas Codex. It shows these deadly Battle Sisters taking the body of one of their fallen Sisters through the streets, holding off all those that would seek to despoil such a devout scene. Here's a neat video they introduced into the mix...
I am really liking where things are going for the Adepta Sororitas and this extends to some of their additional units. Here we have a peek at the Multipart Sister Repentia squad which will be dropping soon.
The models, which we first saw as part of the limited edition set, are going to be available with all sorts of additional pose options, heads, accessories and more. I think these ladies need a good dose of blood across their bodies to show the brutal situations that they have found themselves in. You can see more of the models with some of those cool masks here.
The fluttering pennants and such are a nice addition into the mix and there are a few cool bionic thrown into the mix too. This shows that even though these Sisters have been sent into battle without armour they're always retrofitted with something to get them back into the fighting so they can keep...repenting I guess?
Adeptus Mechanicus Flyers
As well as the Battle Sisters there was also a look at a new flyer for the Mechanicus force. This Archaeopter is going to be soaring into the mix with its rather fascinating and Gothic design. I love the look of it and you could imagine unarmed versions of these fluttering across different worlds.
You can get a better look at some of the details here which certainly give you an interesting peek as to the way this has been put together. The Adeptus Mechanicus has created lots of fascinating vehicles and such which give us another look at the world of Warhammer 40,000.
As with the first peek that we got from this round of previews there is also a preview video for this particular model too...
It will be fascinating to see if we get anything else a little more esoteric for the other factions in the world of Warhammer 40,000 to match something like this.
Psychic Awakening & Animations
We finish things off for this peek into the future for Warhammer 40,000 with a look at what's coming up next for the Psychic Awakening series.
New books, new miniatures, new secrets uncovered and more. Here is the trailer they put together for this particular storyline...
There's a lot of stuff coming our way and I am fascinated to see how the T'Au get added into the mix alongside what the Saga Of The Beast brings to the fore. I really hope we're going to see a mighty clash between the Space Wolves and something monstrous.
Finally, we also got a sneak peek at some of the animation work going on in the background.
I am looking forward to this suite of options. Maybe we're going to see a collection of stories a little like with Love, Death & Robots where there will be a selection of shorts bound together into a series.
What do you think of the Warhammer 40,000 previews?

That Ad Mech flyer is going to be joining my Nurgle Warband at some stage. With a “little” green stuff, I think it will make a wonderful alternate Helldrake.
Is it big enough for a Heldrake? From the shots here, it looks a bit too small.
No idea but it will look cool with Plaguebearer pilots, little Nurglings hanging on and lots of gribbly bits.
If you end up doing this, I HAVE to see pictures!
I think it would also sort of fit with the Orks too …
Oh yeah! You could probably kitbash it with the Bommer kit easily. I could imagine the Grot sponson gunner in place of the antennae/flare launcher, and the big shootas and bombs on the wings and cockpit.
yeah that would be a great idea.
It stops the ork flyer from looking too much like a perfect copy of a humie flyer.
Was looking at that flying thing and was thinking it would be more “kewl” in a Dune game than 40K, Just need someone to bring out a Spice Harvester in 28mm (it would only be about 6 foot long) now 😀
Batcopter! XD
Ork def kopter wiv bat wings
I like some of the art that GW do for the Battle Sisters, but the sculpts look terrible…
Reminds me of the film Aliens where Hicks says… “Hey Vasquez… have you ever been mistaken for a man?”
You’ve got that right…they look more like the Space Marines in drag than proper Battle Sisters. GW REALLY needs to take a page from Raging Heroes or other mini companies and learn how to do a proper female head sculpt.
Unfortunately, I think the Admec flyer missed the mark stylistically and doesn’t really fit in with the Admec army in general.
On the other hand, I really like the SOB vignette piece with the funeral procession. It seems this will be a thing moving on, and I think it opens up possibilities for us modellers.
Will need to heavily mod the SoB to be ably to remove individual pieces as the model losses it’s relics. Also, how would you transport that as a single piece? I do wish GW would just make models for gaming and let us kit bash our own dioramas.
I’ve had this problem with tall models before. The trick is to get a tall enough pluck foam box, pick out enough foam for the base itself, and stand the model on the base. That way the tiny bits on the top are protected by the foam on the top of the case, and you don’t have to worry about the model toppling over and having bits snap off.
Love the ornithopter good for Dune game’s?
YaY It’s the helicopter made from red telephone boxes again
Loving the Ad Mech flapocopter!
Whoever selected the music for that animation show-reel should be looking for a new line of work…
It sounds like the soundtrack to an insurance commercial or scholarship program, not the soundtrack to the grim dark future of 40k.
It really seems like the AdMech are repurposing a lot of the old machines used in Mars’ early days in their army, which is nice to add a little extra flavor. That being said, I’m totally going to repurpose that thing for Warmachine, it’s too much of a great gothic/steampunky design to NOT use. Despite the awful butch head sculpts on the Repentia, they look decent, and the funeral procession looks great for adding some character (and they ACTUALLY look like women!)
Did anyone else get “Chitty-chitty-bang-bang” when they saw that flyer?
I can see that in the wings.
It looks very steampunk to me.
Made a balls-up of epic proportions yesterday – was at Warhammer World (Crimbo shopping hehe) saw 3 copies of the Sisters of Battle box but was dying for a pee. Went to the gents, by the time I came back they’d gone. Now I know, if it’s a choice between missing out or having to stand in the middle of Warhammer World in a pool of my own making then I know what must be done… Not overblown by the sisters repentia but hey ho. Ad Mech flyer is just bonkers, love @robert idea for a Nurgle conversion, awesome new… Read more »
The ornithopter looks amazing and the blood angels animation looks really intriguing. I want to see the human support staff for the Blood Angels. I think it will make for a better story that just following the space marines.
Weird I like but also dislike the flier. It’s interesting to say the least but I’d like to see it kitbashed into a 40k Imperial Guard version of the little bird helicopter.
