Gripping Beast Are Taking A Shot At Digital Normans
November 27, 2019 by avernos
A few months ago Gripping Beast showed off a single Norman archer as a teaser for a new plastic range that they were beginning to work on. Now they have come back to show off the work in progress.
So far they've shown off four bowmen and four crossbow wielding Normans, all unarmoured.
The sculpts all appear to have a good level of detail on them and come with the typical poses you would want to see, loading, readying, firing, which makes them ideal for skirmish games. But as you can see from the renders they have few component parts, so building larger units should not be a time consuming process, and while it will restrict posing of the miniatures I think that can be forgiven for getting the units built and onto the table as quickly as possible.
Despite this being their first foray into digital sculpting I think these Normans have come up very well and I expect they'll go from strength to strength. Hopefully we'll get to see their first cavalry renders this week as well and if so I'll be digging those out for you to chase away this black Friday nonsense with some lovely dark age minis.
What do you make of Gripping Beast's first attempt at embracing future tech?

Liking these renders. These could lead to a SAGA Norman force for me in the future.
I find it hard to mentally translate renders into miniatures but i think i like these quite a bit. Will they be true to scale (as opposed to ‘heroic’) does any one know?
Gripping Beast’s metal minis tend towards the beefy. I’d guess the plastics would match.
looking good.
They are a little stiff…
i agree, far too static
I prefer Dead Normans so stiffer the better 🙂
Better than the last previews and some nice detail. Some of the poses are still unnatural, especially the bow being shot into the air and the legs seem a bit short.
The Cavalry renders just popped up on FB,will you guys add them onto this article ?
