Oathmark: Battles Of The Lost Age – Delayed
November 27, 2019 by avernos
You may be aware that we've been keeping an eye on the massed fantasy battle game from Northstar, Osprey and Joseph McCullough for a while now, today they have announced a slight delay before we can expect to see it on the tabletop, but to soften the blow they did accompany that news with some lovely new artwork.
Here's what they had to say about the delay.
We’re truly sorry to announce that Oathmark: Battles of the Lost Age has been delayed, and will now be publishing in April 2020. Everything is almost ready, but we just need a little more time to make sure that when you get your hands on the game it is the best it can be.
Thank you for your patience with this – we know you are all excited to play the game, and we can’t wait to see your Oathmark armies marching across the tabletop! To help inspire you as you muster your forces, here’s a preview of some of the incredible artwork from the game. The first piece, painted by Ralph Horsley, shows the Elf Light Infantry, while the second piece, by Jan Pospíšil, shows a wizened old wizard ready for battle.
Keep an eye on the Oathmark page in the coming weeks, as we have some things you won’t want to miss, including blogs from author Joseph A. McCullough that are sure to pique your curiosity!
While a delay is always disappointing, I'd much rather face a couple of months delay than see something rushed out that isn't fit for purpose.
The work so far, with Rangers of Shadowdeep and of course the stand-out Frostgrave, show just how good these collaborations can be and I have no problem in hanging on into the second quarter of 2020 to get a superior product.
Are you excited for Oathmark next year?
"I have no problem in hanging on into the second quarter of 2020 to get a superior product."
Better to make sure they get it right. Seen too many rushed and shoddy products recently
When it comes to crowdfunders that are asking for funding in order to create (as in design, write, sculpt, etc.) something i tend to assume that they will either be delayed, (almost literally) unbelievably lucky, or … not good.
aye, it’s nice to see a non crowd funded game that they’re willing to take their time on
love the artwork for the game.
I am far more interested in Frostgrave 2.0 and what is to come for Rangers of Shadow Deep than a massed fantasy battle game. I rather play several skirmish games in a row than a few hours on a single battle. I am sure it will sell a lot of miniatures but I will wait and see if it has anything unique we do not already see in Saga, Kings of War 3ed and others. If this was not from Osprey and Joseph McCullough I probably would not even have read the news item. I want to see the reviews… Read more »
Kings of War is a very specific kind of massed battle game that doesn’t simulate but is far more gamey – likewise Saga is like a realistic simulation and more a skirmish level game. Both games are more “game” than war simulation.
It’ll be interesting to see how this compares to KoW which is now well-established and has a thriving tournament scene – a fundamental necessity for this type of game in my view, as it provides a hard core of support around which the truly committed can coalesce. Hard to imagine there being enough room for another “rank and flank” fantasy game. Mantic have taken 10 years of hard slog and lessons learned to get to 3rd ed, and they benefited from WFB’s implosion of course as well. I wish them well, and the models are nice, but right now I… Read more »
Kings of War is a poor simulation of warfare though (and it never claimed to be). It’s more game than “war recreation” and that’s exactly what it was designed to be. Surely there is plenty of room for something less “gamey” and more “war-war-war-ey” ?
Also the model line for Oathmark are outstanding.
Big fantasy games with large blocks troops on the table as always good to see
