As some of you may have seen I’m currently working my way up to a decent sized table for skirmish Sangin, Brits v Taliban in the green (ish) zone.

besides thingiverse does anyone know of any good resources (free or paid for) that i can use to help bring this to life? Scatter pieces eg 556 /50cal ammo boxes, modern jerry cans, other detritus you’d find in a British PB and an afghan compound

also given finding anything requires the right keywords can you help me with them too. Eg HESCO and jersey barrier etc.

on top of that are there any good places to buy 28mm vehicles for this war zone that fit with courage in contact minis? I’d like a jackel and crew for cool factor alone to be honest any other British and local vehicles would be well received

I think these guys have some lovely stuff for a whole heap of ranges. They have done a number of successful Kickstarters to expand the range and produce some great files.

For some you can pan across the images, others like the Arabic you need to follow the link on the right to their KS to see the contents.

@collins I’m not sure of what’s out there but I could quickly make up some stuff like ammo cans. Youooking for something like this:

If you have any other specific scatter stuff I can try to model some up tomorrow.

I did a few different jersey barriers they should show up on thingiverse.

Good afternoon ~

@collins – I’m not 100% sure I understand the question. Things you’d find in a British patrol base? Would that really be what your table is? I would imagine most firefights take place away from the PB / ISAF base camps.

Well, for one, you can’t go wrong with shipping containers. Everything on these bases seems to be very pre-fab, dropped in, and assembled on site. A lot of tents, (nothing terribly permanent) a lot of concrete barricades like we see on highways and construction sites … and I’ll be honest, these “basket” looking sandbags (?) I see stacked up in many photos. I’ll be straight, I don’t know what they are, I’ve never seen them myself. But these seem to be a feature of many base camps in the region.

If you’re looking for a ISAF base area … just have some elevated firing positions (1-story tall towers fortified with sandbags), long fields of fire around the perimeter (any buildings we be demolished or vegetation cleared) – Taliban can never get close without being seen … only one road and that is fortified with “dog leg” switchbacks or barricades (so a car bomb can never drive straight through even at suicide speed). This would all be in military “prefab” buildings, I wouldn’t use “local” buildings to my knowledge. If your table is big enough, some hint of air ops, a helo pad or the corner of an airfield.

I hope I’m not off base here (no pun intended). I hope I understand the question.

Oh, and since a lot of these are pre-fab construction out in the middle of nowhere … hey, what can I say. Nothing adds realism like a couple of porto-potties. 😐

hi all thanks for the replies

@noyjatat I particularly like their second arabic kickstarter, some very cool stuff in there.

@marsniper27 that would be great, I could then dump them around the firing points on a PB also if you could model some onto pallets as well that would be perfect as I think they get dumped/delivered on pallets. although I can easily make some pallets up from coffee stirrers and matches.

@oriskany that’s the kind of stuff I’m after, thanks for the ideas. portaloos are a good idea but I think the use of John bags and burn barrels were more prevalent. Still a good addition however to give the feel of a temporary base. The sandbag things are called HESCO barrier , delivered flat and then rocks, sand and dirt are dumped into them to make them hard cover. this is the best file I’ve found for HESCO. Earlier on in the conflict the Paras had several conventional engagements around the PBs before the taliban realised they couldn’t win a conventional war against professional soldiers and it became a true guerrilla war. on the table i’m building id like to have the British patrol out of it around the board, get ambushed etc so im not looking to make a massive one, a small representation will do fine. doesn’t need to be grandiose.

One of my kids is home sick so not sure I will get the model done today but I did start on it. They will be a bit oversized to make them printable but I’m doing then in cad so can quickly rescale if needed.

Did a quick test print on my Ender 3 with .4 mm nozzle. Hard to keep it reasonable sized and get detail but what you think. One pic is with a 20mm figure the other is one of my son’s primaris.

Ya any smaller with a .4 nozzle and no details would print. I want a resin printer then could do it at a proper 28mm scale for 5.56 with full details.

yeah me too! I just can’t get the cost of the one I want (with associated kit) past the familial spending committee watchdog (wife)
