A Byzantine Emperor Rides To War With V&V Miniatures
November 11, 2019 by brennon
V&V Miniatures seem to be planting bugs in our studio as they have just released some Byzantine miniatures as Warren started ranting about them over the weekend. Check out this new Byzantine Emperor & Generals set from the team.
The set comes with a set of four miniatures. Leading the way is the Byzantine Emperor himself looking out across the battlefield atop his heavily armoured mount. He is then surrounded by a band of Generals and a Standard Bearer who are no doubt going to be getting stuck in to clash with the enemy in close quarters.
The set is certainly a nice one which is packed with detail but it would perhaps have been nice to see each of the Generals in more dynamic poses? Obviously they might be watching from afar but these models look more akin to display pieces than proper gaming ones. I would have liked to have seen at least the two spear-armed Generals charging into battle.
Not every model has to be shown in the midst of a fight but if you're using these for Ancient wargames and the likes of SAGA where the forces might be smaller you need some dynamic models so that you get a sense of the action playing out.
What do you make of the models?

They are really nice. I love the scale on the horse
Well if the Emperor himself is in combat, you’re doing a bad job (he should be somewhere safe looking all resplendent). Not everyone plays”Hail Caesar” where Caesar himself is morphed into a multiwounds melee monster. Generals (and particularly Emperors) should be sat at the back looking all calm and collected 🙂
He looks pretty calm to me
That’s what the player’s for – these guys are obviously patsies to look nice for the grunts; the real emperors/generals are the omniscient giants pushing the units around the battlefield.
?
You know, if you chopped him off at the knees, gave him a longer beard and slapped a great big hat on him, he could work as a Chaos Dwarf general. 😉
A great armoured command unit.
