Fight Large Scale Battles With Gripping Beast’s Milites Mundi
November 8, 2019 by brennon
Gripping Beast has now opened up pre-orders for their new set of slightly tweaked rules, Milites Mundi, which allow you to play out large scale battles on the tabletop using miniatures from the smaller end of the scale, namely 10mm.
This is an expanded option for those playing Swordpoint and immediately supports the release of their models for the Early Imperial Roman Empire and Parthians. Milites Mundi works for games set throughout the Ancient period and flows into the Medieval era too.
The game uses the same Army Lists and Campaign Supplements that you are familiar with from regular games of Swordpoint, allowing you to play out games in around two hours. There is a real focus on this being a proper mass-battle rank-and-flank affair where it's all about positioning and tactics.
If you'd prefer to take things to a grand scale this seems like a nice new option on the market and if it does well, maybe we'll see them design some new 10mm forces which build on the existing collection.
Let me know if you'll give this a go below!

Great for big battles lovers.
THIS I’ve been waiting for, will be picking up a copy (it might make me finally move on from my copy of Warmaster Ancients purely because my opponents can’t find a copy) 🙂
With SPQR and Clash of Spears raising my interest in ancients, there’s something about this scale and the size of battle you can play that appeals to me. The Partheon Empire* are an interesting choice as a first opponent for the predictable Romans. Looking forward to seeing the range expand.
Otherwise known as the Arsacid Empire, I’ll just leave that here for @Warzan to stumble over… 😉
My initial attempt at pronunciation: Arse-kid. Yeah that’ll do.
Or a very diluted output that requires nappy-rash cream!
Now I have an image on my head of giant column strewn buildings striding over the countryside harassing smaller round houses and shacks
I would be very happy to know about basing and 15mm rules. All this because I have a lot of DBM armies.
Damn I was hoping to not buy yet another rule book ? but seeing as it’s for a “true” scale ?
