@ludicryan dropping knowledge bombs about the edge championships.
The people must know…
But who was 4th?
The literal edge of the Discworld
I figured it would be a mostly unknown Irish musician The Edge. He is from a pretty minor garage band called U2.
After their tax dodging U2’s The Edge slipped to last place after being beaten by the Collective Edge of Ireland’s Patience in a tense qualifier. Coincidently the Collective Edge of Ireland’s Patience came in at 9th, narrowly missing the quarter-finals this year.
Could you get a small off-cut of Litmus paper from a local school to test the acidity of the foam?
I’d hate to see those nicely painted minis, and the hours that went into painting them, go to waste.
I’ll look into that mate!
Get one of each color. It may not be an acidic issue but a basic one. And you would probably want a test that is wet not the paper strips. The other issue could also be how much moisture the foam holds and how that reacts with the final varnish you have chosen.
Dear Gerry.
I am fine, thank you very much for asking. We have seen your little standees, and they look delightful. Perhaps one day we shall have a game with them, that would be an absolute pleasure.
Love and kisses
Robert
Bloody Brilliant idea the @warzan. absolutely love it!
Also good the see the AE/weird WW2 minis have a good & loving home. Please do the bases so justice when you get a chance.
I dare say the Great Sasquatch wont need the foam insert for his new army. if he just takes them off their bases he could “flat pack” them into the little tubs, so they are ready for the next game of SPQR/Saga/whatever!!
lol yup I’m gonna go to town on them soon mate to Castle Wolfenstien them 🙂
13 Euros or 11 Pounds…. that’s a far fling from 7 Pounds 😉

The range (a uk outlet) does them for 7.99 (I always drop the 99p as I’m a good gullible consumer just as TPTB intended lol)
I wouldn’t hold the .99 against you 😉 But does “the range” ship to mainland EU? Weston does but at a price. And, for what ever reason, amazon.de does sell Weston boxes…. but *not* those…
A quick google and anything less than 10 Euro tends to have fixed compartments.
Maybe OTT can start selling them and get a volume discount ?
It is exactly the kind of niche product that you can’t find, unless you happen to have a craft store nearby.
love this, brilliant idea.
will these find there way to the OTT store some time?
Dane
Cool. Now if they sell that brand of container in the States. My one concern (besides availability) is that fiddly bits like swords, etc., of, particularly, metal minis might suffer in the closure process. There’s nothing more demoralizing than a longsword in the shape of a boomerang or even a horseshoe, or broken off completely. I suppose a small slit in the foam might help in the long run.
I certainly had some of the old GW egg shell cases.
Great stuff, like the solution. Do you have any idea’s for larger vehicles and terrain (more wargaming really)?
Great video Warzan ! I am honing to steal your idea. I stoer my mini’s in a cardboard box with eggshelly foam inside to protect my models.
budget boxing at its best.
That foam was a life saver for my wife and I. We moved from the U.S to Australia and needed something to protect 300+ minis I dare say. That foam did the trick beautifully.
Like you say, not much chop for anything else, but housing minis it’s great
i got loads of box files from work (they were being thrown out as we gone paperless) and lined them with eggshell foam as storage. not got the smaller compartments. wonder if i could find cheap boxes to put inside? got me thinking
@avernos are those flats from wofun? My pledge hasn’t landed yet… ?
Yes. Did you see them on the xlbs?
I’m definitely picking up some more
i did and am jealous. i ordered the nap ones (brits and french only) so despite 20-25 years in the hobby (on and off) i might actually have a painted army!!
Hmm yes, I still have two of those original GW cases with the eggshell foam.
I really like your idea @warzan though looks like we can’t get those containers here in Australia… but now I’m going to be out looking at how I can adapt this idea ?
Well that was an unexpected throwback to an era before the foam companies solved our storage issues.
Personally I would not trade a standardized foam solution for this solution, it is cheap it has a compartmentalized option, but beyond that it is not a better solution for me than the offers of standardized foam companies.
So with the mountains of foam storage products here in this studio… had any solved my issue you wouldn’t have seen this video 🙂
There are subtle and imperceptible advantages to my perfect storage solution presented here lol 😉
Joking aside though the ability to quickly swap sub compartments between boxes has been a real plus, and my main issue with the standardised stuff is the odd shaped minis I never get to fit properly, this is a little more flexible and forgiving 🙂
I am glad you missed me 🙂 sorry for not engaging last couple of months and you had such great topics for discussion! My solution, to an extend, to your problem is having one storage solution and one transport solution. Personally I use KR multicase for storage and battlefoam for transport, KR half trays to have everything grouped and organised in storage and I move them in a small Battlefoam bag to transfer them for gaming. I could see you using a pure KR system with half trays of groups for example a half tray of barbarians, a half tray… Read more »
“Nazis are always good” Gerry. 2019 haha
Because of the loose-ness I wouldn’t trust the GW cases. It kind of means you’d need to fill the whole tray in order for it to be sturdy. But your solution looks great and I’ll keep it in mind for the future, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing this @warzan 🙂
Since i have a lot of plastic minis, i used plastic boxes with compartments that i bought at Wallmart camping section! Added a few foam inserts for the few minis that have weird poses…
Now i finaly get the new GW foam inserts!
ordering now, brilliant
I use tackle boxes that are labeled.
Do those stack easily? My problem when I had similar storage in the past was the plastic bins slipping all over the place when stacked.
That is fantastic! And saving us wargamers money! Can I get a double cog!? Hip-hip! Hip-hip!
Man’s a genius
That’s a neat set of boxes! Do you get them online?
