    Welcome to the unofficial weekender.

    ### Star of shameless copy & paste ###

Read all of this before you start as it will save any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS!

    ### End of shameless copy & paste ###

    Questions:

    1. What do you do when BoW/OTT is down?
    2. On a scale from “The Phantom Menace” to “The Empire Strikes Back” how excited are you for the Star Wars Weekend?
    3. Did you ever go to a convention/tournament/event for the sole purpose to get an exclusive mini?

Now if you will excuse me, I have a video to watch.

Pledge – Get more models built – boats for Black Seas, Gauls for SPQR, Steel Behemoth for my Dwarfs, more Undeads for my Undead.

    1. It is rarely down but… I cry and wail and bang my fists on the floor screaming…

    2. I’m not.  There are only 3 Star Wars movies and there are no Ewoks in the game, so on a scale of the darkside to cuddly bears, Darkside.  I do own X-Wing and have played it, great wee game.

    3. No.  Takes more than an exclusive mini to get me to leave the basement.

    1. Wonder on how to get my next unofficial weekender out!
    2. The Empire Strikes Back
    3. No but it might tip the scale towards “I’m going”

    Still watching the weekender 😉

Pledge – Paint these Space Marines in Front of me.

    1. I just get in a ball and wait for it all to be over.

    2. Very excited for the hobby Weekend since I’ll be streaming again and I had a lot of fun last time.

    3. Never been to an event with an exclusive mini (Here in Australia we don’t really do that sort of thing) but I go to events all the time because I’m friend with the guys who run them (it’s a giant place but not that many people).

    1) There’s plenty of other internet out there…
    2) Can’t go to Ireland (from the USA) a week or so before XMAS.
    3) No, but GenCon 2015 turned me off from even trying despite being at the con anyway.

I really want to finish Building my Star Wars Legion Clone Wars starter. I got it last Friday but real life has been super busy.

phew … it’s back. A weekend without OTT would have been terrible indeed.

OTOH … it might have resulted in me actually complete building my orks. 😉
I also am planning to start a 3rd secret project using Tanks & Fury boxed sets from Flames of War.
It’s a project with a deadline as it is sort of planned as a gift for my nephew this Christmas.
However lack of progress on my orks has delayed that a bit.

Nintendo releasing a new game that I *eh* want to buy isn’t helping

    1) What do you do when BoW/OTT is down?

That never happened before.I need a plan next time so I *eh* went to bed earlier than normal.

    2) On a scale from “The Phantom Menace” to “The Empire Strikes Back” how excited are you for the Star Wars Weekend?
What’s this ‘Phantom Menace’ you speak off ?
There were only 3 movies and those Rebels and Clonewars CGI series.
So on a scale of 1-5
I’m at 4 … may get to 5 if the ‘goodies’ that are supposed to be part of the digital ticket are revealed.

    3) Did you ever go to a convention/tournament/event for the sole purpose to get an exclusive mini?

Never had been to an event/convention that had exclusive anything.
The only exception is the ‘Spellenspektakel’ (a boardgame convention) which tends to have a limited supply of goodie bags during the first day. However those never had anything special (a lot of advertising material), so it’s not like you missed anything if didn’t get one.

    Home

If it hadn’t been for ‘Flames of war’ at that convention I might not have discovered OTT/BoW.
It’s also where I saw SW:Legion before it got released.
At that time it didn’t look interesting, but I think that was because I’m not a Star Wars fan and I wanted to see what FFG would do with the license. The clonewars are a much better subject for a wargame than the movie trilogy IMHO, because there is so much more content and actual armies for both factions. I’m sure Star Wars fans will disagree and point towards various extended universe fluff.

    WE HAVE A HERETIC!

    Every thread needs one ?

@limburger I too have been tempted by that game but only because I want to dick about with sensors and see how easy it is confuse suspect much hilarity could happen if you have the leg sensor on another person sat next to you or at other end of sofa…

@timchubb I’m pretty sure those sensors can be fooled. It’s not like they have some sort of super fancy algorythm that only ever detects the correct usage. As such I’d say they probably have a lot of false positives in order not to discourage their players from trying to play the game.

The more interesting aspect is the heartrate measurement using the infrared sensor on one of the controllers.

I know people managed to connect the Wiimote to their pc, but I don’t know if anyone has ‘hacked’ Switch controllers yet.

    // — edit —

These things are basic bluetooth controllers … so linking them should be easy.
Finding programs that can access their special features may be more of a challenge.

    Morning Troops 🙂

Got a pass for a couple of hours this morning to nip into the studio to hobby for a while, then its off to take the family to the car boot sale – I let on its for them, but really its for me I’m on the hunt for military looking boats I can use in some modern gaming next year for some ship to ship raids 🙂

    Any Way Questions…

What do you do when BoW/OTT is down?

I kinda shite my self for a while and then pester Tim and Tom between the hundred messages I get that the site is down lol. I used to shite myself a lot harder though but Tim has some great infrastructure in place these days so its a little less stressful – but only a little lol.

On a scale from “The Phantom Menace” to “The Empire Strikes Back” how excited are you for the Star Wars Weekend?

Utterly stoked for this! bit of a dream come true to spend a weekend starwarsing with like minded folk from the community 🙂

Did you ever go to a convention/tournament/event for the sole purpose to get an exclusive mini?

mmmmm, no in fact I think i’m an army or group kinda guy, single minis I don’t think have ever caused me to go to that length 🙂

    MUSAK!

    Hobby

I’m in a good place this morning, some time ago we received this Para army as a gift (I can’t exactly remember where it came from – but I suspect Australia)

So its basically the Paras from Arnhem – which is soooo cool 🙂

I’m getting stuck in to re shade them all to tone them down and then do a rebasing job on them. QUESTION @avernos and anyone else – does the base size matter if I want to play these in Bolt Action and Chain of Command etc – I’m really thinking of sticking these guys on 32mm bases and going to town on the basing a bit.

    20191027_065758

I’m in a happy place today lol

    20191027_065830

The box of goodies that it has taken soooo long to get around to!

    20191027_065834

Colour scheme is a little on the bright side so I’m going to ‘shade em down’

    20191027_065844

    Old Faithful to the rescue.

    20191027_065900

    The ‘drying pile’

    20191027_065908

    Its definitely Arnhem! lol

@warzan basing for CoC is fairly agnostic – it is suggested that command models get slightly bigger bases to make them easier to identify visually but they pretty much say go with whatever you have from other games if you have stuff on hand (single or multi-bases as long as you can track casualties), so wouldn’t imagine 32mm would be an issue. Sorry don’t have my BA rulebook to hand…
