Marvel Champions: The Card Game Releasing November 1st
October 16, 2019 by brennon
Fantasy Flight Games has announced that the official release date for Marvel Champions: The Card Game is going to be November 1st. So, if you're a fan of cooperative card games you won't have long to wait until you can delve into this game and take on Rhino, Ultron and more with your team of heroes.
The game, focusing on a cooperative experience for one-to-four players, has you working together to try and stop the schemes of a nefarious villain. One of the core aspects of the game is that each character comes with their preferred set-up but you can take things beyond that and deckbuild to your heart's content, changing things up to make your perfect set of heroes.
As well as the Core Game which is going to be coming at the start of November you'll also find follow-ups in the form of Hero Packs for Captain America and Ms. Marvel plus a Scenario Pack for The Green Goblin too.
However, one of the good things about a cooperative card game is that there's no 'meta' to keep up with. You don't have to buy everything immediately to feel like you're keeping up with the game. This is one of the reasons I'm a big fan of their other cooperative games like The Lord Of The Rings and Arkham Horror.
It also engenders a sense of group buying too. Maybe you don't particularly want to pick up the Rocket Racoon set but your friend might, so they could step out and pick that up so when they come to the tabletop they have their own hero to play. This is made all the more of an option since the Hero Packs come with a pre-set deck which is totally ready to go.
Are you tempted to dive into this card game?

More for the collectors out there?
There are quite a few people at my club that are really excited about this. I’ll probably pick it up as well. I do like my Marvelverse.
I’m in for a starter box and we’ll see how it plays
I say that with virtually every LCG…
That said, if this is as good as Arkham Horror then it’ll be an easy addition to my collection.
Arkham was the only LCG I did not own until last week when I bought 2 core and the Dunwich cycle. Played it for the first time a few nights ago and enjoyed it. I do still like the asymmetry of Android Netrunner though
