Huge Ships Hove Into View In Fantasy Flight Games’ X-Wing
September 20, 2019 by avernos
Veteran players of Fantasy Flight Game's X-Wing can pre order the Huge Ship Conversion Kit to bring their existing fleet up to spec in Star Wars: X-Wing second edition.
Not just a clever name the Huge Ships Conversion Box contains the huge ship manoeuvre tool and huge ship damage deck. It also contains ten ship (huge) cards and five ship (huge) tokens that allow you to fly a huge ship (huge) in each of the game's seven factions (huge)
There are over 80 upgrade cards to bring these frigates, cruisers, and corvettes lumbering into a galaxy far far away. First edition collectors will finally be able to bring these massive models back to the table for the second edition and all the required cards, tokens, dials and tools to wreak destruction upon the despicable Rebel Alliance is finally here.
To allow an epic feel to your space battles no longer will single fighters take out snub-nosed fighters with a blaster shot or a well-placed photon torpedo. Instead, multiple attack runs will need to be lined up to batter down the shields and take out weak spots on these giants.
The updated ship cards mean that all the big guns (huge) can be brought to bear once more for Star Wars: X-Wing. But fear not, if you are a new player this launch is to coincide with the second edition releases of the huge ships for X-Wing and the
Tantive IV Expansion, the C-ROC Cruiser and the Imperial Raider Expansion packs are all available to pre-order as well for release in the last quarter of 2019.
Will you be adding these into your X-Wing collection?

I wonder, given Armada has seen the advent of the Super Star Destroyer (with an appropriate price tag), could we see FFG take Huge ships to the next step and introduce the likes of the Nebulon-B Frigate (the Medical Frigate from ESB & ROTJ for the unlearned) and the AquitinesLight Cruiser?
A
No, simply to expensive plus that’s what Armada is for. They just repack the old Epic ships and sell them at a higher price. (And less content because the fighters from the V1 release are not in there any more)
Oh I know that they are re-releasing the existing Epic ships with all the 2.0 kit, but there was a third party that made an X-Wing scaled Nebulon-B kit until they got a C&D from FFG & LFL, so I could easily see them being the sort of thing that becomes a centrepiece for players collections. Alternatively, could we see other Corvette or Light Frigate class ships appear? It might be kinda cool to see the likes of the Hammerhead Corvette or MC30c Torpedo Frigate for the Rebels, or updating the designs of the likes of the old Lancer-class Frigate… Read more »
It would be cool but if you look how these ships scale to each other X-Wing is not suitable for it. The current epic ships are already (partially) scaled down. Bigger ships would be nuts.
That being said FFG did the ludicrous expensive SDD and the bunker for Legion so it’s not completely off the table I think.
The SSD is what got me thinking about it to be honest – it’s proof for FFG that there is a market for a prestige model like that to serve as a centrepiece at a premium price point. It does make the old WOTC AT-AT look like small potatoes by comparison.
I’ve seen the SSD in the wild at my last Star Wars Legion tournament… a dude watching the event just bought TWO of the things in the store next door and everybody just stared at them XD they are huuuuge
I mean that’s probably about as baller a move as you can make in a gaming environment right there…
great looking ships.
Love it. Now my old first edition monsters can come out of the mothballs. I suppose the next stage will be to produce models we can sit in and pilot ourselves.
