I’ve finished up my favourite aircraft in the game so far, the Marauder Destroyer.

I was going to use the same grey scheme I’ve already used on the other aircraft, however decided to go with a variation on the camouflage used on the A-10 during the 80’s and 90’s. I used the same stippling technique used on the other aircraft, spplying the disruptive pattern in patches over a dark green base. I finished highlighting this up before adding the pattern on top.

Chipping was applied with a sponge, and the the rest of the weathering was applied with artist oils.

Since Aeronatica Imperialis had it’s first release many years ago I’ve been tempted to play it, but missed it the first time. I’d been a little on the fence about this edition since release as it was yet another project to add to the pile, however, a quick demo game at Warhammer Chatham was enough to convince me to invest, and I think this may be the quickest I’ve gone from purchase to painted!

I’m going for an 80’s, US Navy style theme applied loosely to the aircraft, my Thunderbolts are from Fighter Wing 111 ‘Evil Sunzdowners’ for example…

After priming the aircraft black, I stippled on various shades of GW greys and whites as show in the attached pic, and then used some dark brown sponge weathering and artists oils applied as a wash to finish the aircraft after the decals were applied. All 4 aircraft probably took 2 evenings work to get done! Next up I’ll add some Destroyers, and then some more Thunderbolts, before starting the Orks.
