I like hex games, but CBT is a wargame simulation. I am staying away from CBT also because off it’s player base. Alpha strike is much more modern and in line with beer and pretzel gaming, and hence I would strongly advise going with that ruleset.

I would also advise waiting for the Kickstarter to hit retail. The period would have to be a clan invasion era just because that’s where you get decent looking and acceptable quality minis. Metal is outdated in general, and the quality, especially of the Battletech range, is abysmal and the most persuasive argument against it.
