I also in a previous life had a job where I was on call at all times.  Now running the business we started has actually been a bit better.  We added on an employee this year for the first time and it was to get paperwork for our technical work done.  It took a lot of work off of my partners plate and she is now looking at doing more delegating.  The work takes longer to get done and is done to the industry standard, this has forced my partner to see the value of hours spent and that kind of balance.  This year would have been impossible as without this addition as we were given two projects that were failing before we took them over.  As to the main question the balance comes from understanding how much you can put on your plate and when you realize you are secure in your place with walking away.  We take time to have dinner out where we discuss the business and get so much done in that two hours with just the plan of discussing what is working and what has failed.  This allows for the time to break from everything and work on hobby.  Hobby time is my usual break from work and all of you here are a big part of my hobby.  Painting allows me to clear my head and just zone in or hyper concentrate on something and stretch my mental legs in a different direction.  For @warzan it must be different because the hobby is the industry and as much as you love it are you really getting away?  Can you separate your hobby time for the OTT hobby time?  The hobby case you created seems to be helping with that and the ability to come in early and just work on the hobby instead of the business is important.
