D&D Essentials Kit Now Available For Your Adventures!
September 6, 2019 by brennon
If you're excited to get into some Dungeons & Dragons adventures then you now have a new avenue into the game as Wizards Of The Coast make the Essentials Kit available from all good retail outlets, be they physical stores or digital ones.
The new kit as we've talked about before is a good entry point for the game because as well as giving you everything you need to run a D&D session with a group of players it also has rules for taking a single character through a story in one-on-one adventures. I think this is really key for couples and especially parents and their kids who might not have groups to play with.
You always need dragons in your games and so this one takes you to the top of Icespire Peak plus the rulebook guides you through your stories in a new way to make it a really interactive learning experience.
One of the key things about this set that takes it to the next level is the addition of all of the goodies like the Dungeon Masters Screen, cards for the monsters and treasures plus maps that you can hand out to your players. All of this makes it a really key starter set for people who are interested in Dungeons & Dragons.
What do you make of the set?

Not sure about the adventure… it’s structured a bit like a computer RPG with a quest board, which might work well for new players.
The cards are useful though… one for each condition in the game, an assortment of low level magic items to hand out to players, initiative cards and the quests for the quest board.
GM Screen is a bit flimsy though, but dice are good. 2d20 for advantage/disadvantage, 4d6, d100 and 1 each of the others.
Probably one of the better starter boxes.
Do you think it’s worth picking up for experienced players? I’m thinking of grabbing it for the cards.
If they’re experienced they probably know the conditions. The 36 magic item cards are potions, some +1 weapons and some low level items (boots of elvenkind, gauntlets of ogre power… that sort of stuff) which are of limited use beyond first level. We’re in the midst of low level D&D at moment with GM new to D&D5 and I’m more familiar with D&D3.5, so the condition cards in particular are of use while we learn this incarnation of the rules. If you only want the cards… it’s an expensive option as I’m sure someone has done condition cards as a… Read more »
Now ain’t that the truth you go out for a wee stroll treasure hunt and your neighbours left his pet dragon out in the Yard putting a downer in the day.
