Deep-Cut Studio Present Their New Hobby/Gaming Table
September 5, 2019 by brennon
Deep-Cut Studio has jumped into the realm of hobby accessories in a big way with their new Hobby/Gaming Table which they added to their webstore this week.
This new table from them has been designed to a budget option for those who might have been considering diving in and getting themselves a gaming table. It looks functional and fit for purpose, doubling up as a hobby space with that extending ledge as well as a gaming table once you've removed the lid. Coming in a €490 it isn't too bad really when you look at the cost of other tables out there!
Here are the dimensions as they are always important when it comes to snapping up a piece of furniture!
- 112 x 142 cm ( 44 x 56 inches) surface, 83 cm ( 33 inches) height to upper tabletop and 70 cm ( 28 inches) height to bottom
- Transforms into a table with 91,5 x 122 cm (36 x 48 inches or 3×4 feet ) inner surface dimensions, 10 cm ( 4 inches) deep
This particular table does come unassembled so you'll have to put it together yourself but you do get a set of tools and a manual to help you along the way.
You can also get it in wargamer black...
It would be good to sit down around this table and see how functional it feels. You're going to have a lot of gamers sat around this, leaning on it, chucking dice around and putting it through its paces so it should hopefully be designed with that in mind.
Getting a gaming table is always a big investment so maybe we'll see if Deep-Cut turn up to some conventions with one of these so we can see what it's like in real life!
What do you make of the design as a whole?
"What do you make of the design as a whole?"
This table is made from ‘recycled laminated A grade plywood’. I’m not sure of the need for (presumably plastic) lamination, which i take as a drawback, but the use of recycled materials is an important consideration for me.
Worth noting the table’s height of 83cm/33″, which is a good height for taller people like me as it means we don’t have to choose between reaching down further than is ergonomic or sitting on a chair (and cushion combination) that gives good posture. (I really recommend roleplayers make sure they’ve got good posture.)
Doesn’t good posture involve balancing books on your head?
Luckily gamers have lots of books.
For Advanced Postures & Posers players only.
It is laminated because the surface is more like chip board. Close to this picture
That makes sense. Do you know if the laminate is plastic?
I do not know. I am guessing only. From the pictures it looks like counter top laminate which is mostly plastic and far more durable. But, they could use a real wood top laminate. I assume it depends on the cost and how far they go into the ability to recycle the whole table.
Na, don’t really like it…. looks very impractical
The finish and the wood being used reminds me of MFI furniture. The sides around the table look very high as Welland a bit impractical
It is as if they tried to make it stylish and practical at the same time, but failed on both accounts. @torros is right, it is like something you would have bought out of MFI – in the 80s. Honestly, you would have to pay me 490 yoyos to put this in my house, and that would be under protest… I also think Warren saw one of these at the UK Games Expo when he interviewed them.
I have seen a few purpose-built gaming tables like this one. They are all very expensive and take up a lot of space.
I prefer to use two of these folding tables:

They are pretty good for gaming at a bargain price and I can pack them away in the garage when finished.
BTW whatever happened to those cardboard gaming tables that everyone was swooning over a few years ago?
I like it to be honest. Although it doesn’t really solve the problem of having a gaming table at home for me personally, I think there’s much better cheaper options
Nice idea but it’s two feet short of a gaming table.
Looks like something that could be sold at a certain scandinavian furniture store …
I’d be afraid of breaking the thing. Especially those table legs look too thin to be reliable.
Can’t see those skinny legs lasting LNG.
great looking games table but for 500 euros I would get one that can be a pool table.
It’s an interesting venture into specialist furniture, but my initial impression is “€490 for that?”. I’m only guessing that they’re not expecting to sell at a volume where they can produce it more economically; I’m also looking at the flat shapes and struggling to see how they aren’t wasting significant surface area (I’m prepared to be corrected).
Sorry but to me it looks ‘cheap’ and at 490 euros it certainly isn’t that.
The legs don’t look strong enough either
See a lot of gaming tables advertised but very very few are 6’ x 4’. Most Wargames with figures are played on a 6×4.
