Check Out Games Workshop’s Evocative Adepta Sororitas Artwork
September 3, 2019 by brennon
Games Workshop has been taking some time to delve into the artwork that will be present in the new Adepta Sororitas Codex which will be coming in November. Their first look was at the awesome cover art that will adorn the front of the box.
This artwork is pretty on the money when it comes to exploring the grimdark nature of Warhammer 40,000. Skulls? Check. Battered and war-weary warrior? Check. Hopeful light shimmering in the darkness? Check. This pretty much gives you a focused look at what the Sisters Of Battle are all about and I like it!
Keeping with the theme of the Adepta Sororitas being a holy order there's also this piece which shows them in procession. This is from the Triumph of Saint Katherine.
Even as the body of the Saint is taken across the battlefield the sister at the forefront of it has hacked down some heretics and foolish cretins who would dare to desecrate her remains. Again, this feeds nicely into the grimdark nature of Warhammer 40,000 and brings to light that feeling that as a concept it's pretty much Fantasy with laser guns.
Last but not least we have a battle scene because we all like seeing those in our Codexes. This one shows the Adepta Sororitas going up against the T'au as they seek to take control of an Imperial world.
It's cool to see the Sister Repentia doing their thing, hacking their way through Fire Warriors whilst a band of Sisters Of Battle march forth with bolters hot.
I am consistently tempted by Warhammer 40,000 armies but none of them has really got me hooked just yet. Adepta Sororitas might change that.
What do you think?

Those are some great looking art works.
love sisters artwork. and this new stuff is great too, it still has the same vibe as the originals. a lot of the new 40k art has seemed, to me, to have lost it’s grim darkness a bit, especially with the new Primaris marines, but the sisters still feel the same! just how it should be!
I like it all. Very brooding, gives me a renaissance vibe. The first pic reminds me of Dark Souls, and not in a bad way!
hopefully they will be sticking around instead of disappearing back to protect the imperial relics around the galaxy?
I like the realism of the second piece. If only the miniatures were this fine.
I love the art and world building that games workshop does, so these days I am more into reading the books than playing the game. I also love the sisters because they are a human faction with such interesting and important lore.
If they are reasonably priced I am tempted to get some Sisters models when they come out just to paint. I just hope GW isn’t thinking that by hyping them up this much for so long that they can max out the prices on the new range.
What is that in the bottom right hand corner of the the Tau artwork?
Probably an arco-flagellant?
Arco-flagellant
They have the Penitent Engine crewed by a man for some reason, maybe they have Arco-flagellants in the army lists as well.
