I discovered this evening that rattle can primer melts styrofoam. Oops!
I should be able to salvage quite a bit as I didn’t try and prime everything in one go but there were casualties.
Any suggestions for quickly getting a durable base coat on styrofoam? It doesn’t have to be perfect but does need to knock the white back to a grey or brown.
coat with Mod Podge mixed with some black (or whatever color) hobby paint. The cheap stuff works fine as it is just to put a base color down on the article. the Mod Podge also will make a very solid coating to protect the item.
There are rattle cans that allow for usage with Styrofoam, I know Montana creates such things but others do as well (Just test it on a piece of Styrofoam before usage). I tried that but due to the price choose a different option. Another option is to take simple craft paint and mix it with wood glue or Mod Podge and water, this creates a cheap and effective primer.
