R. Talsorian Get You Jumpstarted In Cyberpunk Red
August 13, 2019 by brennon
R. Talsorian Games are getting more and more people jacked into Cyberpunk with their Jumpstart Kit for the new tweaked version of the game, Red. The Jumpstart Kit is available right now via DriveThru RPG in PDF form with a full boxed version coming later this year.
The Jumpstart Kit gets you right into the action with two booklets. One of them explores the lore and adventures that you'll be undertaking whilst the other sets out the core rules you'll need to play. This is then added to with six pre-generated characters for you to hand out to players and also a set of maps and standees which can be used to show where everyone is.
Going beyond that into the physical realm we also have the Boxed version of the game which is set for a Q4 release.
In this version of the game, you still get the two booklets, characters and standees but you also get a set of Cyberpunk-themed dice thanks to Q-Workshop. I think a lot of people are going to want to go for this physical option, especially if they're new to the game. Old hands will most likely have already snapped up the PDF to start giving this Red version a go.
Will you be diving into Cyberpunk once more?

So this is the follow up to the rpg Cyberpunk 2020?
Yup
And best of all : no magical flocking dragons or elves.
I want my magic, dragons and elves. I’m a strong supporter of Shadowrun as a better universe and, usually a better rules system. That said it is starting to look like SR6 edition is a big steaming hot pile so I’ll pick this up just to stay up to date.
As a universe it certainly has its charm, but I’ve never been fan of dice pool mechanics
It will be the third follow up to 2020 but also a prequel to the video game by CD Project Red

Cyberpunk v1
Cyberpunk 2020
Cybergeneration
Cyberpunk 203x (v3)
Cyberpunk Red
Wasn’t Cybergeneration more of an alt-universe setting as opposed to a straight sequel ?
Indeed. The techno-plague that forms the basis of Cybergeneration exists in Cyberpunk, but never amounted to anything. Cybergeneration (currently in its 2nd edition as a standalone version) is set in an alternative reality where that plague significantly affected the world.
So how is this different then Shadowrun? Is it all tech and no magic/psionics?
Yes, there is no magic or psionics. It is ‘hard’ sci-fi set in a dystopian near future where corporations have taken over. “The Corporations control the world from their skyscraper fortresses, enforcing their rule with armies of cyborg assassins. On the Street, Boostergangs roam a shattered urban wilderness, killing and looting. The rest of the world is a perpetual party, as fashion-model beautiful techies rub biosculpt jobs with battle armored roadwarriors in the hottest clubs, sleaziest bars and meanest streets this side of the Postholocaust. The Future never looked so bad. But you can change it. You’ve got interface plugs… Read more »
Yep all tech, no magic..
But it is also style over substance (leave a pretty corpse)
I think i’ll stick to the original because the tech is so retro now it’s fun.
We got a physical copy for review at GenCon so expect a full review and playthrough on Darker Days Radio soon.
Look forward to seeing that. I definitely plan to get this I used to love the original Cyberpunk
