About the Project

I had a Frostgrave blog on BoW 1.0 and now i think it's time i finaly started a project on BoW 2.0/OTT! This project will cover the two Frostgraves, the original and Ghost Archipelago and will be a ongoing one since Frostgrave keeps adding up nice stuff and i keep buying ;)

This Project is Active

After a disastrous year of hobby in 2021 (thanks fucking covid… among other problems), i painted an Ice Toad!

I took the Realm of Winter painting guide in WD 472 as a guide…  I’ll have to test this guide when i paint a building…

The base is Corax White, followed by a Contrast wash of Talassar Blue and a drybrush of Corax White,  i painted the eyes with Averland Sunset and some black for the eye slit.  I painted the troat pouch with Contrat Aethermatic Blue.

I realise my pics are a bit off/too close, i’ll have to check that, it has been awhile since i took pictures with my new phone…

Hopefully i’ll be painting a few more Frostgrave minis soon!

Shameless copy paste from the Leasure league!

Alright!  Finished my Reaper Bones Stone Golem, from their first KS.  I wanted to practice painting white stone, using GW recipe from Aziryte Shattered Plaza box, for future projects (including said Plaza, next summer since their not yet primed 😉 ).

I’m quite happy with it.

I figure this will do a rather nice Large Construct for the game or a large statue!

The wizard comes from Reaper Miniatures, from KS #4.   I’m not sure is out in retail though…

Anyway, most of the mini was painted in Contrast Colors, except the base and staff.  The robes are Shyish Purple, it was the first time i tried this color, it might’ve come up better otherwise…  The cloak is Talasar Blue and i like the result!  The beard is Apothecary White, i’m not sure wich contrast i used for the satchel, Snakebite Leather most probably (sometimes i go for Wyldwood, i think it does better at leather than wood 😉 ).  For the eyes, after i manage to put the white, i was afraid to ruin them, i thought the pupils would be too big, so i went with Hexwraith Flame, as if he was invoking magic!  For the gem on the staff, i tried Spiritstone Red, over Stormhost Silver (not too bad…).

The miniature itself is a bit big size-wise, compare to Northstar minis but, it will do anyway!

This miniature, also from Reaper Miniatures KS #4, will serve as a lighly armored captain…  This miniature would also make a good Ranger and/or compagnion for Ranger of Shadowdeep in my opinion and he is out in retail with some friends…

Aside for the color of the cloak (rhinox hide), i forgot to take notes and will have to make tests when i go for the guy with the mug next!  I think i managed the face pretty well… even though there’s a bit of a bulge on the mini’s right eye, i couldn’t repair the “bleeding pupil” effect even after 3 tries…

Just as the title says…

I’ve had this old GW crow mini sitting in my bitz box for years now and decided to paint it.  I don’t know if i’ll ever play a Crow Master but, at the very least, i’ll have a small cover terrain!

Also with the crow, i giant snake for Ghost Archipelago.

I’ll forego the “back” pick, it didn’t come out well enough, despite playing with the settings…

Finally finished another one that’s been sitting half painted for some time…  I painted this minis in basically 2 steps: the flesh, in Citadel Contrast Guillaman flesh, and the rest of the colors in another…  and since a have already a two-handed guy for my barbarians, i decided this guy is going to be a crewman for Ghost Archipelago, hence the green base, wich i’ll flock in the future…

I’m happy with how the flesh turned up, even if i could’ve tidied it up a bit…

I give you Bjornolf Beornson, from Hasslefree Miniatures, a bonus mini i got with an order a few years back.

A scenery piece that’s been sitting half painted (this one for months!), mostly because the effin white took 3-4 coats to get it to a point i like.

It was prime with Citadel Mechanicus  Standard Grey primer, a wash of Argrax Earthshade, one drybrush of Dawnstone, followed by another one of Administratum Grey.  I then did small drybrushed from the one of the white i used around the ice, to give it a more frosty look.

The ice itself is MSP Bones Glacier Blue, followed by a white drybrushing.

The wall itself comes from THMiniatures.

It’s the small one, the Snowy Fortified Wall.  I have another one like it and plan on getting the Large Fortified Wall in the future…

The only thing i forgot to do, is to add a drybrush on the wooden block, i guess i forgot!  I won’t on my next one!

That’s it for now, thanks for looking!

A simple thug

I managed to do another barbarian for my Frostgrave gang, just a simple thug…

About 75% of the paintjob is done using again Citadel Contrast paints : Guilliman Flesh,  Gor- Grunta Fur well, for the furs!  Snakebite Leather for his cloak, armbands and lower legs (overboots?).  I used Basilicanum Grey for his undercoat and finally Ork Flesh for his coat.  For his coat, i did 2 coats of Ork Flesh, i wanted it a bit darker, to match the other greens in my warband, at least in tone…

The base and the metal colors are either AP or GW and i decided to add some snow on the base (the only guy in the band so far!) and used Valhallan Blizzard texture for this…

Oups, forgot that the beard is also not Contrast paints, but rather Reaper MSP Core colors “Blond Hair triad”.

I think i need to paint up either my captain or finaly finish my Apothecary (it’s been shelf for the last 6 months!) next.

Will see…

A cabal of ghouls!

Although i didn’t paint these with Frostgrave in mind at first, but rather for my D&D games in mind, it finially occured to me that ghouls do appear in Felstad…

The first 3, are from the Reaper bones line.  I got them from their Kickstarter number 3 or 4?  Anyways, there still not available on their site in Bones, but 2 of them are available in metal though…

I went for a simple paintjob…  Army Painter Blue Tone and a dab of Mixing Medium for the skin…

The next 2 are from the Pathfinder Deep Cuts line, pre-primed line.  I got them because i think they make exellent boss-type ghouls!  Add character or NPC levels and boom, a tougher ghoul!

I went with the same blue i did for the first 3, AP Necromancer cloak for the black with GW Dawnstone as a slight highligh and went for a Guillaman Flesh Contrast for the cloak!  Ghouls are sooo bad, am i right?

See you later.

I'm back!

It’s been a long while!  I’ve been painting a lot of minis in the last few months but, nothing relly Frostgrave related (except a cabal of ghouls for D&D that will do for Frostgrave too ;), pics later on this week)…

The first mini is an Archer specialist for my Ghost Archipelago band.  Since the miniature is metal (hate paint chipping while playing…), it was intended to be a quick exercise in the use of Contrast paints.  It went fast but, sat there asking to be put online 😉  It took 4 months!

The next one is a simple crewman in plastic and was also intended to be a quick paintjob in Contrast…  Many problems with some colors later, only the pants and the flesh remain in Contrast paints, i had to repaint over the yellow i used on the shirt and others too, it’s been siting so long unfinished, i’m not sure wich colors i tried at first…  i finished him last week and, it’s not too bad, at least i like the face!

Well, even though it’s not clear when i’ll be able to play with my friend, i hope i can at least get back on a Frostgrave paint binge!

Oh, and since i like to flock more than 2 minis at a time, they’ll get flocked when i have a few more…

This mini was the test miniatures for the tribals a few years ago…  I turned it into a Pearl Diver…  No WiPs for this one as i did it on and off during summer…

I’m happy with him, except for the tatoos and the water effect!  The problem with them is that i went in without a plan and i was too lazy to paint over them!  The water effect isn’t bad but, it could be better.

2 quick ones, without WiPs, since i painted them in about 35 minutes total… counting the 20 minutes time you have to wait for the Contrast paint to dry!

I went with Flesh Tearers Red, to test it out before i moved to the Major Demon!

I’m happy how they turned out but, i should’ve taken the pictures before the coat of varnish, because it altered a bit the red: i think there was a tad too much humidity in the air.  The red, particularaly on the imps legs turned a bit whity…

I still have a set of those guys sitting around (won an auction with 2 sets and a Major Demon for about 40% of total value!) and i’ll be painting them later on in blues most likely…

Managed not to get distracted (not too much 😉 ) and finished this one!  Did not add any Contrast paints after the beard and i like how the mini turned out.  He’s the 13th Warrior (pun intended!) done for my warband and with the  Contrast paints i used, it will hasten the work!

Snakebite Leather for the main leather, Gore-Grunta for the furs and Basilicanum Grey for the beard (i will try other Contrast for beards/hair on others).

Managed to add to my Frostgrave archer and took some pics for my 2nd round of WiP!  I used another Contrast paint for the beard!  I used Basilicanum Grey and i’m happy how it came out.  I also added some Guilliman Flesh Contrast on top of my AP Barbarian Flesh to test it out and it worked well…

I’ve started this archer a few weeks ago with some GW Contrasts: Snakebite Leather and Gore-Grunta Fur and both gave me great results!  I painted the cloak to show how the Gore-Grunta Fur turned out and it turned out better with this guy than on my fur cloak on a D&D miniature, i think it’s due to the fact that the barbarian’s cloak is simpler in design…

Here are the first two WIP pics for this guy

These five guys are for Ghost Archipelago and appear in the “Cities of Bronze” supplement.  They are called Groggers and since North Star don’t produce minis for them, they suggested “Deep One”, from their Horror range.

I don’t have work in progress pics for them, since i painted them in about 5-10 minutes each!  In a rare move on my part, as soon as  the varnish dried off, i flocked them and tried some water effects on some (i usually wait a few weeks!).  I used a “Woodland Scenics product for the water effect but, not super happy about it…  Any one has a good one to recommand?

Sorry for the pics on those, they are rather dark minis…  will try some better ones later.

I’ll start this project by posting a group shot of the barbarians i had on my blog before on BoW 1.0.

I had also completed all the Ulterior Motives minis but i’ll forego the pics as they are pretty simple minis 😉
