Unfortunately club attendance and participation dried up and the campaign never concluded. Evil was smiting the $h!t out of everyone and I just got to say “Yeah Abyssals faction ability of Fury is that good”.

I missed the second session game Snow Blind. However my evil ? team mates are keeping us in the lead. I got to play last Wed. With great hobbies from our group who is playing as a good faction with his bad dreams. A bit unconventional in the Mantic world but, we have a serious shortage of good so Joel stepped up. We are facing off and both got heading out from the gate quite cautiously though. Good was group  defending. My ranged characters were steady taking cover in the first round.

Second round became a steady mess of Melee on the right side of the board as unit after unit charged into the fray. I had plenty of power dice and thump and fury are so delicious on a Mauler. I handing out wounds like tricker treat candy. My Tormentor was able to let loose with Demonic roam in round three using one of my two power dice. Thwarting shadowhounds attack. My second power dice was used to fury The Despoiler being attacked , being combined with fury thump is just too juicy. The attacking butcher was smithed too Hell.

Bottom of round four nice dreams moved several models into contact with the 2 point objectives. I started to finish up the last opponent in Melee and make my own moves towards scoring. Good dreams suddenly dissipated into the ether. I think we won by their conceding. Still waiting for an update from the C O.

Ice & Iron campaign: Game 1 Break Through

We were given a simple objective crush our way through the enemy line and off into the horizon.  Our small band Warband poised ready to tear into our next meal. Assemble left to right Abyssal Guard 1&2, DeathClaw the Despoiler, Hot Chick 1 The Succubus, and Crackhead the Gargoyle (proxy by the Seductress for this game). Our BBQ feasts were to be the stringy but sweet elves of Overthere. Round one was all movement and cover taking or bracing with my Warband. Second round my gargoyle got greedy and tried for some glory when the elf prince exposed himself. It was supposed to epic and it was, an epic failure that is. She fell first blood dragging herself off the field. Third round Archers made themselves pesky and one elf got himself charged. It didn’t go well for him. Meanwhile a tall spear had been maneuvering  himself nearly into the scoring area by the fourth  round. Guard 2 caught up to him. Both exchanges blows and saves. Dice is marking the scoring area.

More mayhem in the fourth. Archers peppering my Despoiler with arrows and even he took a wound just not enough to take him down. He did a great job shielding the succubus as she moved with him.. I group charged my pair into the pesky prince who had exposed himself earlier. Time to deal some slam and vicious with fatal attraction. Pesky prince can really take a pounding and give it back.

This was a slug fest the lasted the 4-5 rounds. Prince would get smashed, save and get back up and attack when he could, we would save and so on. In the meanwhile the contest in my border zone waged for the remainder of the game. An archer hopped the hedge in fifth without much luck. In the meantime one of Guards 1 was trying to sprint towards the elves score zone and took an arrow in the back from the other. Finally at the end of the fifth Succubus fell the prince and advanced over the hedge. We rolled for a 6th round it it began again. Archers firing, two warrior going at it in the contested zone. Tall spear finally fell, and the Succubus just getting off of the board by fatiguing a walk on herself. Team evil with 1vp for the game win. We collected quite a bit of campaign gold (16) but, the weather turned bad quickly. We saw Hot chick 1 running off to assist Crackhead who was dragging a badly mangled leg of the field. This injury looks costly. Hopefully once the white out dies down they will make their way back to the base camp.

Smoking gears..

We are playing our first game Wed. 10/2 at Gamescape in SF. Break through. What to do go cheesy and fly, armor up and punch through, spam up on the cheap guys and run the risk of loosing grunts in the first game with hopes some squeeze through the cracks…

Up against another club member here fielding the Trident Realm. We played find the plans. The plans turned up quickly but, This particular opponent like to run away as part of his strategies. Which really kinda drags things out. We timed out on this game as well. I did enjoy the fight I did get to have when I could connect with this faction. My shooting was really off. I really wanted to cast Immolation with my Warlock but, kept getting greedy and trying to cast fireballs as breath and just kept wiffing. He rolled so many damn 8s that game anyway, Immolation probably would of backfired as well. He was kicking my ass and I was near Fallbacksville when. We had to call this game end of 5th round.

I had a couple of games first against Nightstalkers Secure the Portal. We had a great slug fest unfortunately we ran outta time. The Seductress managed to smite that pink thing off the board in one retaliation attack. Notice she had no wounds. Thank you Fatal attraction. The cliff hanger was at the portal where The Seductress delivered 8 wounds to The Nightmares boss who saved them all, then retaliated for four wounds which the Seductress save all on. Then my partner had to go “Don’t Worry be Happy”. We called it. He had it on the points.

Our crunch time to the campaign kick off is here. I’ve been less productive this time around and have found I still don’t have a dedicated Tormentor Model. I had another bunch a bits I will whip one up. I got finished with highlighting base colors and working on basing. New models. Decided to build a gargoyle after all. After fielding the seductress in a warm up game I decided she needs a flying support.

I have found in the project that I so enjoy painting the faces of the devils they just have more character than any model I think I have ever painted before.

Needed some Imps unfortunately the free set only came with two so I grab someWizkids to fill it out.

We are planning on starting Ice &Iron by the end of the month so time to pick up the pace. Put the finishing touches on burnt succubus models & added some ashes to the base of  a Flambearer. Also wips of guard, lurker, flambearer, and lower Abyssal grunts.

Been working on the Warlock for quite a while. Had some big gaps of to file with green stuff from the cape joins. So many different paints went on to this one. All the same old contrasts on the Warlock. Then on the thrall hulk, flesh tone bases, washes, greyed flesh mixed hilights, bruises made with red and purple glazes. All over finished washed flesh glaze. Blood for the Blood God and Nurgle rot tech paints. As you can see he has a strong physical will but, no stomach for battle.

Finishing up the Abyssal guard and Succubus Lurker, same paint techniques used on my Sudductress just more of the none metallic metals being practiced. Also so source lighting being practiced as well. I know I’m using quite gawky pinning. I just found in the past that with things I mount in cork small pins in feet always come out at some point with my frequent transporting. Enjoy in sweet hot suffering.

I was excited to run some cav. In this Warband so I started to mount some Abys. Guard. Unfortunately Mantic just nerf the +1 cav. Bonus on rolls when attacking smaller models so I may rethink that. I still like how it looks.

I’ve slowly getting the Despoiler ready for the table. More of the same contrast and Reaper purple were used. Dry brushing the legs and arms after basing and Paying attention to the great skeletal face with some with Contrast  s.bone & reapers white. Base got a few bonus hot glue bubbles. I needed a bit cutting the arm and green stuff to get the position I wanted.

My buddy Price gave me some leftovers Abyssal bits from his Vanguard kick starter pledge. I wanted a few Succubus Warriors but, none are in the Warband box set. I took a couple of gargoyle bodies, they have some slots for wings and a skirt & tail on the back of the models. I filled the backs with a little white hot glue and took a sculpting tool to create a contour in center of the back. I put two beads of the glue to create buttocks on one that I didn’t have a tail for. I trimmed of access to shape. I topped each one with a succubus head. The paint scheme is going to be scorched flesh. It’s still rough and was made using with Contrast. Templ. Blk &Blood Ang. Red.

I’m still getting a feel for which units and how many of each I will want to run in my Warband which I’m naming “The Nasty burn”. I got started by building and the resins first. I finished the Sudductress. She was a great quick easy build with minimal clean up. I mounted her with a paper clip pin on cork. She was primed with Citadel Wraith Bone. Wings based coated with Reaper Monarch purple, I applied a wash of thinned Contrast Black Templar on top. Then thinned the monarch with Reaper white wet blended on the wings upward. Last highlighted wings with a small amount of white. Based coated body and head with Contrast Blood Angles Red highlights of Citadel Pink horror , Hair more Contrast Black, Reaper Stone grey highlight, I gave her spider eyes using Reaper black and white. What little clothes she is wearing Contrast Black, Reaper Stone highlight. Armor Contrast Nazedreg Yellow with Reaper Ancient bronze highlight. Her weapon I tried the non metallic metal approach. Contrast Basilicanum grey, highlighted with Reaper weathered stone and white. I put hot glue on her base molded a bit with a sculpting tool. Quick base coat of wraithbone, layer of Reaper explosive orange, washed with thinned Contr. Blood Angels red. Highlights of Reaper yellow and white. I tried a light effect on the bottom of the Stone, wings ,and some clothing using Lahmian medium some of the same orange and yellow mixed.

What’s Up Gamers, I’m Matty, San Francisco based Metalhead and Wargamer. I belong to a great little club in California, USA called Bay Area Kings of War or BAKOW to us local Heroes and Fiends. Mantic Games has chosen our great little club for the Your Club, Your Story promo. Our club spanses quite a bit of cities in the San Francisco BA peninsala but, us in the heart of the city of San Francisco love Vanguard. We have a pretty regular turn out for Skirmishes of Vanguard at our LGS Gamescape in San Francisco typically organized by our local Rules guru/ Cat herder Bart. I personally ran a introduction games ay Kublacon last May. Our club ran and completed our first successful  Vanguard campaign where everyone really pulled together and created a great experience. I have to say for participation, enthusiasm and creativity Mantic made a great choice choosing our club. Props to Price for contacting Mantic. The project will chronical the building selecting of my Warband, and misc. supporting terrain. The preparation of  Warband as we ready our club BAKOW for the upcoming Ice & Iron campaign, and battle reports and progress through the campaign. On to the good stuff. With my interest in the darker sides of the Fantasy fight over good and evil I’m stoked to have received a free new Warband for Vanguard. I have chosen the Abyssal faction for its Evil aesthetics and Metal as fu@k attitude. I’m really looking forward to the leaping firebolt of the Flambearers for additional range, Succubus with Fatal attraction -1 for enemies melee rolls, and the Imps 3 wound grunts. The leadership, support, and warriors are hard hitting , some well armored and with regeneration as well. Faction specific spells that auto hit with slim chances of avoiding the effects. Torment suffering mental anguish, or Immolation continuing fire attack. Sadistic and wickedly entertaining. The summer is gonna end in a real heat spell when my Abyssals hit the table. Thanks, Mantic, Bart, and Price.
