Fab tip guys, thanks.
You could maybe get a faster cut through the mesh with a steel ruler and a knife.
Loving the barbed wire – great for gaming clubs too as you’ll be making miles of the stuff with one roll of wire and 1m of mesh.
Simple, effective, quick and safe…..what is not to like
Similar mesh but in steel is great for making ladders and railings.

Many thanks Lloyd and Warren, that was brilliant. I really liked how you made the barbs with that mesh. I know I’m going to make tons of the stuff now.
Also thanks to Maxxon for the link for ladders and railings. I was wondering if you could get a finer mesh and make chain linked fences out of the stuff?
I used to use old nylon bags, that you get Satsuma’s in, to make camo netting.
I meant nylon netting fruit bags to make camo netting.
Awesome tutorial. Love Lloyd’s enthusiasm during the whole process.
Great tutorial guys. You can even make trees using almost the same technique with sisal twine or other fibers.
Nice tips. Like the interaction you guys have going on in the video. Wish I could get on with my brother like that. Keep em coming
The Modelmates Rust Effect is excellent stuff, I have used it for a while. It’s not cheap, but don’t let that put you off, it never seems to run out! The thicker you apply it the darker the effect. I used it for my Plague Marines & it made a big improvement to the finished miniatures. One thing to be aware of is that you should apply the effect after you varnish the miniature or the effect changes & does not look as good.
Awesome tutorial guys! As an optional extra you could cut up some old sprues and glue them together as an X to create the racks (sorry don’t know what their real name is) that help the wire stand up on the battle field.
Love it, cheers guys.
Great tip, thank you.
There’s many a gaming that’s going to resemble the Somme very soon. Great video series keep em coming.
Also I’m liking all other tips from the community vids like this initiate.
Known about this technique for ages now, but it’s always good to see this type of thing done and stuck in one easy to find place for those that need to reference them for ideas.
Such a simple and great idea! 🙂
Fantastic tutorial thanks gents. I think I need to see more of that rust effect before I’m sold on it but the ease and cheapness of the construction is superb.
Great vid. guys! You’ve inspired to try my hand at makings some barbed wire.
Very nice idea. Proportin wise I reckon wire loops need to be at least waist if not chest high to be impressive (you’d also get more barbs per loop).
The smaller loop would look great on top of a fence – such as one made with chicken wire (thanks maxxon). Fence lengths (with posts) a few (scaled) metres away and around a hard compound barrier would look awesome.
You could “bedeck” your vehicles with barbed wire 😀
“Festoon” your vehicles with barbed wire. “Garnish?” “Swathe?” “Embellish?” Wrap it around your commander’s cupola for and paint “Krown of Thorns” on the side of the tank …
Right, thats my Christmas tree decorations sorted out…
Christmas at Dead Dave’s house … the other half comes in …
*Gasp!* What is that all over our Christmas tree?
What? It’s silver like tinsel, and plastic and safe for kids … hey, where are taking our tree? Come back with that!”
Using the drill is truly an inspired idea. I had images of one of you holding it while the other braided the 3 pieces together.
Enjoyed this one. Especially because I have the “honor” of building the barbed wire for my clubs FoW DDay Event. I didn’t use your method, because it was to much to build and I already started. I used seals-wire, which is just wire wrapped around a thicker wire. This saved me the time to build the wire myself. And with this project timesaving was key. I present 40 bases or 8meters of barbed wire. I think this proves your saying: “more is MORE!” I think its quite ok for 15mm. But for 40k I’m gonna try your method. It looks… Read more »
