Games Workshop Tease New Primaris Goodies Coming Soon
July 30, 2019 by brennon
Games Workshop looks to be planning some new releases for those Primaris Space Marine players out there. It was teased over on the Primaris Lieutenant Twitter which is there to bring you everything you'd ever need to know about Primaris Lieutenants and how cool they are.
So yeah, it looks like we're going to be getting a Primaris Lieutenant in some new Phobos Armour which is good for sneaking around but there are also a few smudges of awesomeness in the background too. It looks like a new pattern of Dreadnought, an updated tank and then both big and small based infantry.
No doubt we're going to find out more about exactly what this is all going to be when Games Workshop drops their Gen Con news this week. You can actually see some of the miniatures here too in another of Games Workshop's teases.
So, let us know what you think of the fact that we're seeing yet more models for the Primaris. Is it going the direction I imagined it would where the old boys are being phased out of Warhammer 40,000? Surely that needs to happen for good now?
What do you think?

So he is basically Reiver Lieutenant then.
How is that armour good for sneaking around? Nice pose.
Thumbs up from me if they are losing the bellbottoms!
Really do like the look of this one, glad to see it’s not looking like a limited/special release.
I like his pose.
I kind of wished they updated other factions a bit more to be honest.
It’s almost as if Chaos and Spacemarines are the only ones to get a real upgrade/update. 🙁
And while that makes sense it does make the other factions look even more outdated by comparison …
Indeed. It would be nice if others got love as well but seems like Space Marines and Chaos are what sells so they focus on those. It’s problem since they clearly neglect other factions.
YOu can see it within Killteam as well, which is kind of odd as you’d expect them to give all factions equally spiffy miniatures.
You’d have to go to AoS for balanced treatment of all factions (mostly), 40k is all about hot power armor on power armor action with daddy issue undertones.
@poks in AoS it’s Chaos and the Sigmarites that get all the goodies.
I certainly wouldn’t dare to use my minions against any of those to be honest. Too squishy and the more powerful units are either Forgeworld or web-exclusive.
Considering Stormcast are firmly middle-ground in power, that’s a little dramatic. Compared to 40k, even if you account for SCE and Khorne getting a lot of updated books, it’s still much more fair. in 2018 alone we got Nurgle, Daughters of Khaine, Idoneth Deepkin, Legions of Nagash, Nighthaunt and Beasts of Chaos. of those only LoN had no new models released, and BoC had endless spells and terrain only. The other 4 armies got either large portion of all new models released, and none of them were SCE or Khorne. The only faction that didn’t get anything new this year… Read more »
Stupid question, but it’s all Primaris Marines from here, right? Like the original Space Marines, they’re done, right?
technically the ‘original’ spacemarines still exist (they’ve got statlines in 40k and Killteam).
In reality I doubt you can even buy in shops as anything related to them is either out-of-print or webshop exclusive.
It kind of makes sense, because they’re upgraded spacemarines so unless you really really want the few weapons that are exclusive to the ol’ variants (I think flamethrowers and multimeltas … but I’m no expert in 40k lore/stats) there’d be no reason to want one unless you really really like the models.
Then there are those of us that have collected them for more than decade before Primaris become thing and own lot of those because of it. My BA collection traces back to 5th edition and my DA collection traces back to 6th edition. Sad thing is, I am sure those are eventually going to be worthless because of GW trying to fully replace them with Primaris.
I can’t imagine how that must be like,but fun it can’t be…
In the same boat as @mecha82 – ~25yrs worth of collection, with a massive army built in the past 7years, now pretty much abandoned by GW. Ah well, I’ve abandoned 40k in response 😀
Doesn’t make much sense, seeing as you have a fully functional codex and by all accounts classic marines are stronger than Primaris on the table? After 25 years, I’d be happy to have a complete collection, without having to chase the newest and most OP release…
In this edition perhaps, what about the next edition when it’s pure primaris?
Or if you look at the Vigilus campaign books with all the bonus rules. nothing for a Tactical, Assault or Devastator squad, only their Primaris equivalents. The classic marine is certainly in it’s twilight as the focus is all on Primaris as the new cash cow.
I just wish they still had Scouts. I liked the Scouts. Tried converting some with AoS Judicator bows and arrows. DIdn’t work very well.
You can definitely still buy ‘regular’/’original’ marines in shops, there are still loads of kits on the shelves in GW too

a new primaris its drumroll ta da a primaris primaris marine.
a great looking figure all the same.
@zorg I can get some people’s frustration over constant marine releases, but damn, they must be super popular and profitable if GW keep putting them ahead of other things and in such quantities.
GW could stop making all the xenos armies (pretty much did anyway) and anything human not in power armor and still make a killing.
It just looks like they are drip feeding the figure’s like the battle sisters I like the new Marines but I have (old/ veterans white metal) figure’s to choke a battlebarge.
