About the Project

I've wanted to learn a Photoshop style program for a while now so I thought I'd give it a try by trying to copy Oriskany's style of counters for Valour and Victory

This Project is Completed

The Program

I’m a Huge Fan of Open Source Software so I downloaded GIMPY which seems to be the most recommended Open Source Photoshop Equivalent. It took about an hour to figure out how the basics worked (I don’t do tutorials I just poke around and if I don’t get it in an hour I start asking for help) but I managed to get the easy stuff like scaling individual layers under control.

Yeah I Mean Jim's Stuff is Cool but Where's Yours?

I wanted to actually create something rather than just screw around so I decided to make tokens for the Rhodesian Light Infantry and ZANU Guerilla Forces for the Rhodesian Bush War (1965-79) for Valour and Victor. Specifically a Rhodesian Fireforce complete with Transport.

Will they ever get used? Who knows maybe but for practice they were great.

Wait a Fire What?

I’ve Recently Started a Youtube Channel (it’s actually the reason I want to learn basic Photoshop) and have made a video describing what a “Fire Force” is and how it was used which you can watch here.

A A "Half Squad" or for the Rhodesian a "Stick". Values are those of Australian's in Vietnam since that was the best fit
A A "Full Squad" or "Two Sticks" for the RLI
A Rhodesian Grenade Token. A Rhodesian Grenade Token.
The K-Car or The K-Car or "Kill Car" the Commanders Helicopter which Carried a 2cm Autocannon. The Values are my Guess at something close.
The Three G-Cars. These Each Transport a The Three G-Cars. These Each Transport a "Stick" and have either a Single .303 Machine Gun or a Dual .303 Machine Gun (Early or Late Variant)
Not necessary but Each Fireforce would be accompanied by a Lynx Ground Attack Craft and I found the perfect image so went with itNot necessary but Each Fireforce would be accompanied by a Lynx Ground Attack Craft and I found the perfect image so went with it

But Wait You Missed a Few

Those of You who Know Valour and Victory will have Spotted that there are no Leader or Medic Tokens and that’s because a Fire Force didn’t have a single Medic or leader instead each Stick had it’s own Medic, Leader (with Radio), MG and Rifle Grenadier so to have separate leaders doesn’t make sense and the Commander would never leave the K-Car.

Like I said I have no idea about rules or ever using these so there’d have to be some rules to both recognise these limitations and somehow offset them without breaking the game.

Jim has bough up playing other types of games using his Excel method so i though I’d have a go at some Blucher Cards.

This was much easier than I thought since they just give you blanks to work with.

Here are all the French Unit’s needed for Talavera which seemed like a good starting point especially since I found a guy who has done a ton of work and written up some scenario’s for Blucher that you can download here.

The British are much more elite but have less men. Plus they get burdened with Spanish Allies.

These were a royal pain. Line with Artillery, line without, Line with artillery but one special rule then another with two but neither matched.

Just like in real life the Spanish are annoying to deal with and the pay off isn’t going to be great on the battlefield.
