Massive 40K Apocalypse Gaming Table Build [Part Four]
July 25, 2019 by lloyd
As we gain closer traction to the 40k Weekend, Lloyd and the gang are up to their elbows in Wallpaper, Archon Terrain and Army Painter Dip.
See More From The Apocalypse Table Build
After building most of the terrain together and finalising a layout for the tables, we're finally in the end game of our hobby. Drafting in a few recruits to aid us in the build we've been pushing through testing out various dips from the Army Painter and getting those battleboards ready for some hard wear and tear from the 40k players.
Not only that but we erect the giant centerpiece to loom over and intimidate anyone who comes close, filling in the gaps with smaller Archon terrain pieces, they're perfect for this project and we're excited to send over our wishlist of what we need to see next!
What kind of scatter would you include on these tables?

Have we just witnessed art imitating life or life imitating art. Mind blown.
Ps this table looks great
It’s looking good, but I dread to think how much it would cost to build and paint all that for us poor gamers…
I could never afford the time, or money for that table, but if I could find a smaller scale game with armies that I like I could be tempted to try something.
And I do think that table would make for an epic end of campaign battle for an RPG.
With the statues and the gargoyles in situ, it reminded me of a trip to Rome (hence the Latin). This really is going to be a “Slaughter in the Vatican” (internet points if you can name the band who wrote the album).
Totally epic table, I am going to get one of my Shadowswords painted to bring to this.
I don’t know if it would work or not, but you can make a cheap oil wash with a mix of black and brown oil paints and thinner, toss the mix into a spray bottle and heavily spritz down the buildings. Let them sit for an hour, then quickly wipe them down from top to bottom with a cloth to get the oil wash off of the raised surfaces. Literally quick and dirty.
Gods damn, I wish I could play on that table. Great job guys. Can’t wait to see how it turns out in the end.
Coming together nicely.
Wondering if each building shouldn’t have a different color scheme. It might appear to uniform. This would reduce the reuse/modularity of the parts, but might make a more pleasing scene. Most modern skylines are not uniform in color.
Or course the uniform color would be more more depressing aligning with the GrimDark of 40k. Like at modern VMI.
You can make washes out of floor polish (Pledge is the best brand for flow). Just drop in some drops of ink and you’re good to go for buckets of dark washes to use on terrain. Lukes APS on Youtube has some good videos on how he makes tonnes of it for very little money

when its finished you guys need to get some low angel video its going to look like some of the graphics from the spacemarine game a bit of deja vu at the end their.
Guys I have been an avid BOW Member for several years now, but this time you have reached another level with the amount of time and effort you put in to making this tables look beautiful. Cannot await to see the finished city, so envious that Im not coming over to play.
OMG, that looks BRILLIANT boys brilliant.
Those who shall come shall be blown away.
Death shall roam the streets of?… (why not put on a competition to name this bad boy).
“The Emporer Protects” just not everyone.
Lol actually we did just that yesterday. Check out tomorrow’s weekender
Great table build gang!
I always love it when Lloyd comes out of the computer room and unleashes his ‘Hobby Lab’ magic.
John should be able to drive his Big tanks anywhere on that table.
If you’re going to cut him off from one side of the table there should be a rule where John’s Big Tanks can exit one table side via the roads that go off the table edge and appear on the other side of the table (or the middle) by the roads going off the table edge on the other side.
what a spectacular table hope to see it in the ‘flesh’ soon 😀
If you show up nekkid we’re not letting you in….
…again
That Apocalypse table will look absolutely awesome when it’s complete.
really enjoy this series, keep it up learning a lot and seeing a lot of cool stuff.
Congrats guys for that epic massive build!
I skiped part 1 but now, i gotta go back 😉
Some sad news this week. Richard H Berg one of the most prolific board game designers out there including the mighty SPQR game by GMT passed away this week

Oh you put some eye piercer on the top of the buildings. Check ur health insurance i would make sure 😉
Name of the city.. well could go with “Lloydis-grad”? But, how about Castellum?
The three buildings?
The Archivitorum [lots of number crunching, tons of dataslates!]
The Hall of Heroes, known as the Divine Palace est Schola Progenium [train commissars/storm troopers here]
The last building, the farthest from the Archivitorum could be called the “Grand Courtyard”, specifically the “Grand Court of the Emperor Ascendant”, also known as the Governor’s Palatial Secondry.
i wash my buildings with good acrylic paints. Sepia or Burnt Umber.Windsor & Newton makes nice paint
