Become Epic Heroes With CMON’s Trudvang Legends On Kickstarter
July 24, 2019 by brennon
Trudvang Legends, the board game based on the massive roleplaying game by RiotMinds, is now on Kickstarter from CMON. This Norse-inspired game takes to the tabletop as you experience a story-driven narrative without the need for a Gamemaster.
This game is entirely cooperative and works for between one and four players. You will be looking to hold back the forces of Darkness, guided by the Book Of Sagas and the Legends system which helps you with all of the action and narrative beats.
All of the choices you make will directly affect the environment and its inhabitants, for good or ill, hopefully creating a living, breathing world which sucks you in. Eric Lang, dived into the Legends system in more detail in the video below...
The game features a lot of the things that make Legacy games exciting for gamers but you're also able to remove all of the progress you've made and start over again if you get a new group or finish a massive story campaign.
One of the core aspects of the game is of course combat. This is a Norse-inspired game after all! Using a bag-building mechanic they are able to build in a sense of risk and reward. Will you draw as many tokens as you can looking to score massive amounts of damage or will you be a lot more reserved, trying to avoid failure at all costs?
Every time you fail or succeed a test you might end up changing the world too. All you need to do is score enough to hit particular targets, but the degree of success or failure either way could swing things to unlock entirely different story paths.
The game features mighty heroes of course but also a whole host of enemies for you to do battle with...
All of these are based on the original artwork which was crafted by the absolutely amazing Paul Bonner. You can check out a cool video below where they talk about bringing that artwork to life...
I have always loved his work and there is so much of it out there! You will most likely have seen his work pop up in some of the popular wargames and roleplaying games out there. It looks like his work has really come to life in the miniatures for Trudvang too as you'll see below in these painted examples.
There is a lot to be excited about with this project. If you like cooperative adventures, games with legacy mechanics and of course Norse mythology, this is going to suit you perfectly. CMON do a lot of big projects packed with miniatures and I can understand why a lot of people get fatigued after a while, but this looks very special.
At $100 this is quite the big Kickstarter to dive into, but considering its solo options for play and the absolutely gorgeous miniatures we've seen painted up, it might be worth considering. If you were thinking about picking up a game like Gloomhaven for example, maybe this is another avenue you could explore.
We shall be watching this one with interest as it looks stunning!

Interested – will need to see if the game-play looks immersive enough
Those miniatures look great and game seems interesting.
A legacy system that doesn’t ruin game components is interesting.
Not keen on the sculpts, but that’s the art of the game I suppose.
Expensive shipping and the whole Brexit thing means I’ll be out of EU by time it ship… so I’m only likely to buy from a UK retailer. KS exclusives no longer tempt me… they are just extra bits that often add little to the game other than plastic.
Wow great figure’s.
I feel like there’s a big move toward games with legacy elements that don’t destroy the components (and can easily be reset).
Games like Gen7 and Stuffed Fables use these type of elements. Quite a few not-yet-available games promise to use at least some Legacy elements (that can be reset) like Etherfields, Cthulhu: Death May Die, Tainted Grail, etc.
Even Kingdom Death has been adding resetable Legacy elements.
Keep an eye on the “actual” shipping costs on the home page, which will be updated as the campaign continues. For Bloodborne, shipping was $45 to the east and west coasts and internationals near a hub, and $100 for some international backers not near one.
