With a lighting-fast and easy to play system, SPQR allows you to build a complete warband capable of scouting out enemy armies, clashing across borders and conducting raids on farms and villages. Ouch.
Heroes are powerful individuals that will grow in stature from battle to battle, gaining new talents and becoming true legends for the history books.
Who would be your favourite Hero to field?

Those new resin figures look really good and I do love the “come and have a go if you think you are hard enough pose” of the Gaul hero! Like Gerry, I will still be priming mine (and giving them a wee wash first). My only question would be is there an appreciable difference in size between them and the metals due to different amounts of shrinkage during the manufacturing process.
actually there is no appreciable shrinkage for the new resin versions of the metals.
Awesome, cheers!
@robert the resin miniatures are absolutely brilliant. I picked up the Roman Heroes box, not really sure what to expect – I recognised the sculpts on the front but the box simply wasn’t heavy enough to contain metal. When I got the miniatures out I was blown away. The detail is really crisp, there’s very little disfigurement/bending; less than you would get with metal and much easier to fix without risking weakening the pieces. Moreover, the pieces fit together really well (I haven’t actually glued anything yet but I have dryfitted everything). Citadel Finecast this definitely ain’t, they’re some of… Read more »
I have the starter box coming and a few other wee treats as well, so looking forward to seeing them!
I’ve only just tidied up the Battlefield Sacrifice miniature, and stuck it on a round base. First impressions are that it is an odd material and I don’t necessarily mean that that in a negative way. It is nothing like anything I have worked with before. The flexibility in the weapon is weirder in person than watching in the unboxing, and it reminds me of both rubber and silicon cooking utensils at the same time. Detail is great, cleaning the mini is easy enough, I found it easier to slice than scrap away the few mould lines that existed. We… Read more »
Charlie: What does SPQR stand for?
Gerry: Hold my beer *waxes lyrical about Marian reforms*
Charlie: This isn’t a beer this is an empty glass
Ive just ordered this and i blame you OTT and your awesome discount!Lets have a more detailed look at what ive ordered.
SPQR is for “Sono Pazzi Questi Romani!” ^_^ (The Romans are Crazy – Asterix & Obelix)
Check out the Druid in the Celt hero box set, sure I’ve seen him somewhere before with some mistletoe and a large cooking pot.
I’ve seen this one ^_^ It’s clearly Panoramix!!
Panoramix was his name in the tv cartoons but in English translations of the comic books it was Getafix. That brings back good memories.
would it be poor form to sneak in asterix and obelix miniatures (which i own) into SPQR?
Was thinking the same thing. I have the 28mm Gauls but did not buy the Romans unfortunately.
The licence might be pricey!
you could just slip in out of print already in existence asterix miniatures as your ‘gaulish lord’ etc
Where would one find such forbidden treasures? Asking for a friend!
Sorry, seen your other post!!!!
@robert so I have no clue WHY they were made, but there are tiny fighting men of the village, romans, pirates etc, they ARE cartoony but they are pretty awesome…
I roam ebay for decent prices as like many out of print minis there are lots of scalpers… however this one is going at a price

sometimes you can get a bundle of them for about 20 quid every now and again, so it is worth keeping a look out. Most of the characters from the show were made and even some obscure ones…
Thanks for the info @skiptotheend – we should organise it so we aren’t bidding against each other lol
looking forward to a demo game guys….
there are several coming
SPQR = ‘Spears…. Please Quit Releasing’… is something that Michael Caine didn’t say…
That’s a good price for what’s in that box… very tempting… if I didn’t have a billion things to paint…
I bought the rule book with the BoW deal from the OnTableTop store.
I have Footsore’s Mortal Gods at home and a sprue or two of Romans. Hoping I can get a game of this played with my son over the summer holidays. ?
Mine turned up Saturday and I’m very impressed with the set though you need to read the army composition first rather than just going by the box art. I got carried away and then realised each unit is to be equipped the same though the chaotic feel it gives them looks rather good and as each unit can upgrade during a campaign it would not be long until it “counts as having”.
Nobody likes the romans? Oh come on, Italians like the romans! Civilized peopole with straight long roads like the romans 😉
Great looking resin! I would love to see more of the metal kits converts to this resin!
They have definitely succeeded. Unlike GWG’s finecast debacle
The game does look interesting, although I don’t I’ll get the starter set, I may get the rulebook.
And why don’t the Romans come with square bases? It’s much easier to have them in their tight formations if you use square bases.
Favourite faction out of the box: Gauls.
Favourite faction: Germans.
Favourite hero: Arminius, victor of Teutoburg Forest.
Hoooooold on…. one box with 70 miniatures for £40/45€? Stop tempting me!
It’s actually only £32 in the OTT store… plus you can get an extra 5% off as a backstager/cultist, so it is actually only £30. That offer may end today though.
Sorry XD
Liar! 😉 (And I was aware of that but I still need to keep my promise… although that BattleTech Kickstarter is smiling at me… oh that smile… that’s when the trouble began…)
Stop denying yourself the pleasures of the plastic plus if the Battletech doesn’t ship until next year, technically they are new models next year!
But I would need a core set I don’t yet have… and those look at my at my FLGS…. THE LOOK AT ME!
Abstinence never leads to anything good.
time will tell…
This looks really cool. Really tempted to buy this. Can’t wait for some demo games.
The new resin looks pretty good. Hopefully it’s better quality than Mantic’s restic.
nice starter set
“Javelins don’t hurt….” you volunteering for target practice Charlie?
the details on the models are fabulous.
I love to use this for vikings…. game the “13th warrior” film….
I have so now many games now my initial reaction to the news of this game was lets just watch to see where this goes before I jump in. I have to say I’m getting interested. The subject is right up my street and being Warlord I know it will get supported with expansions and cool books. I really can’t see me holding out much longer. I did say to my friends the only new game I was going to commit to this year was Black sails but that is probably just as likely as me painting all my projects… Read more »
It’ll be great to try my imperial romans in this. I assume base shape doesn’t matter? I have them on 20mm squares for hail caesar.
basing is totally up to you, doesn’t matter what you have so squares are generally best as circles are terrible 😉
Another tempting game. I like the fact of all the specific faction scenarios.
im sad i missed out on the extra special price on the OTT store now 🙁 haha
Looks nice but my favorite hero Asterix wont come true, I fear.
oh but he can:

I wonder whether this could be a serious alternative to Saga, it certainly seems like it would suit the Dark Ages/Medieval period, a period possibly more famous for its culture of raiding than anything else, even more than it suits the Roman/Classical era. And if they do additional settings, will they do a fantasy setting. One thing is for sure some of the character miniatures are very nice and the low model count makes it very accessible. Historica isn’t really my genre of preference but I keep being tempted and between this and Saga I can definitely see it happening.… Read more »
the nice thing is once you have the minis you can play many games with them.
And really, what’s the difference between fantasy and historical? Fantasy is just history with magic and a bit of artistic license
