Warlord Games Prepare for the Fall of Berlin
April 9, 2014 by dracs
Warlord Games are preparing a new range for Bolt Action formed around the Fall of Berlin. They have just previewed the first minis that will be taking part in this epic struggle; the French volunteers of the SS-Sturmbataillon Charlemagne.
These soldiers were among the last of the German units to see combat in WWII, tasked with holding central Berlin and protecting the Fuhrerbunker from the attacking Soviets.
The battle for Berlin was a particularly bloody period in the war, with desperation on each side seeing many troops come to the fore. These models are a promising start to a range that will allow you to recreate this epic conclusion to the Third Reich.
Can any of you history buffs tell us anything more about the Fall of Berlin, and what we might expect to see for Bolt Action?
“French volunteers”? :/
I didn’t know French soldiers served The Third Reich, let alone the SS.
The SS had a large number of foreign recruits. The Wiking Division had recruits from Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, and other countries.
There were even volunteers from the UK, though never enough to make more than a small company.
Battle of Berlin = very heavy Soviet tanks and assault guns, lots of rubble, and poor German 12-year-olds running around with panzerfausts… and of course, the maniac who started it all, hunkered down in a bunker with a pistol to his head.
The British Free Corps – I think at its largest extent it was about three dozen strong, which, when you consider that we had thousands of men in German POW camps the defection rate is pretty astounding…
Not sure why you need special figures for this, as far as I am aware they wore the standard German/ SS uniform
