I am a little confused by the Parachute Rifle Platoon unit card below:

    IMG_1157IMG_1158

The card says it is composed of M1919 & M1 Garand rifle teams and that you can add up to 2 M1919 LMG’s. The ROF of M1919 & M1 rifle teams is different to M1919 LMG teams. Does this mean if I go for the top option of 7 mixed teams, 1 mortar and 1 bazooka I use the top row for all rifle teams regardless of the number of LMG’s I can see and only get the LMG stat if I add one or two “actual” LMG teams and increase the team count from 9 to 11? This doesn’t seem right because if that was the case I could go for the cheaper 5 rifle team, 1 mortar and 1 Bazooka and add 2 LMG’s for 1 point less and have a better unit than the unmodified 14 point unit??? Should it be that you spend the 1 or 2 points to change a rifle team into an LMG team so the top option becomes 5 or 6 rifle teams and 1 or 2 LMG’s plus 1 mortar and 1 bazooka and keeping the team count the same?

    I hope this makes sense

Looking at the extra bits on the stats for LMG teams, I would say thats the Browning in its sustained fire mode with bigger tripod (or even the water cooled vesion) as its show heavy wpn as trait the ones for the mixed squad are on the smaller tripod (or bipod) .

If I’m right the LMG team version is similar to a Vickers MMG for British , as with the Germans and the MG42 the Americans generally used the same gun for both LMG and MMG roles.

I may be wrong @avernos is move versed in rules so may give a more official deffinition.

the top row with the ROF 2 when halted already includes the additional dice for a bipod mounted 1919.

A standard rifle gets ROF 1, so the effect of the LMGs is pushing that to two.

The additional tripod mounted 1919 are being used in the MMG role which is why they fire at a much higher ROF.

Right so I need to add teams to get the additional ROF.

yup. my MMG 1919 are just 3 man team on the base. rifle LMG 4 men, and for rifle teams 5 man. There is no set basing but I can take one look at a platoon and know exactly what they are

What you are doing is adding 1 or 2 additional teams to the platoon. You aren’t changing a Rifle team into an M1919 LMG team. So with the top option, you would still have 7 x M1919/M1 Garand Rifle Teams (we’ll call them Rifle teams from this point) plus up to 2 x M1919 LMG teams. You’d need to model the LMG team separately to denote it in the Platoon.

Also worth pointing out that the additional ROF is only applicable to the added M1919 LMG teams. So the original Rifle Teams will shoot at ROF 2 (Halted) while the optional M1919 LMG teams will shoot at ROF 5 (Halted).

Adding the M1919 LMG teams won’t change all of the teams to ROF 5. So if you max out the top option, you will have,

    7 x Rifle Teams with ROF 2

    2 x Bazooka Teams with ROF 1

    2 x M1919 LMG with ROF 5

All for 17 points. Although in Fortress Europe, for 12 points you could have Churchill Armoured Platoon. And why wouldn’t you because, well Churchill tanks! 🙂
