About the Project

In this project I'm going to work on forces for SAGA. I'm going to start in Age of Magic but I might drift into the historical versions too.

Some trees

I’ve had these 4ground trees sitting about for a while now so I thought I’d get them table ready.

I’ve done the bases in the same manner as the Primitive Totem.  See that entry for more.

I didn't glue the individual tree bases into the wood base. This is because I wanted to be able to switch up what tree were in each wood, and I wanted to be able to remove the trees if I put something big in the woods.I didn't glue the individual tree bases into the wood base. You might remember seeing this down  (or up depending on what way you’ve got the feed ordered) the page. It’s now finished.

The stones are from Ainsty Castings.  The bases is an old warhammer movement tray that I’ve carved into shape.

For the basing material I first mixed up some texture paint (poly filler, sand and brown paint) which I slapped down over the base.  I then applied some places over the base. I got my Geek Gaming foam flocks out. I scattered the dark flock where I wanted shade. Then I hit the whole thing with a heavy scattering of mid tone. I then covered the thing with isopropyl alcohol, this was to act as a flow improver for the next step. Then I applied watered down pva to the base, one to seal it, two to stick the next step down. I sprinkled some of the light tone down.  I then gave it another dose of watered down pva to seal my highlight. When using foam flock you don’t have to wait for one stage to dry before moving onto the next, you can wet work it.  Finally I gave it a sprinkling of mixed herbs to be leaf litter, this also made it smell nice.

I started the Lords of the Wild army that was supposed to be a wedding present for my wife. Admittedly we got married nearly 3 months ago, but better late than never I suppose.

I knocked our another terrain piece this morning. This is Cavendish Cottage from Warbases. I’ve added roof tiles from thin card to make the roof look better.

Starting my next project, Lords of the Wild force my wife, I thought I’d better get cracking on building the warlord.   So I stuck this dude down on a 60mm base and thought it looked a bit empty, it needed something else.  My solution… war pugs.

Here’s the first few images of my finished Great Kingdoms force. I’m going to have to break these up into separate parts, because it keeps crashing when I try and upload too many images.

May as well start project number 3

I’ve started on a Lords of the Wild force for my wife based on GW’s wood elves. I’ve just painted a primitive totem, which I got from Ainsty Castings.

Basing continues

The entire force has been flocked and sealed. I’m waiting on the IPA I used as flow improver evaporating and then I can paint the base rims.

I finished my second paladin.  He’s a conversion using the body, head and arms from the knight box and a spear shafts and axe head from the foot sergeants box. I personally think my kit bashed two handed axe looks pretty cool.

Knights really paint up fast.  This is my 9th point, more hearthguard with heavy weapons.

On the subject of the number 9, I’ve only got 9 left to paint. After that it’s time to do the bases.

So I went larping again, which has delayed my painting for a good few days. You can read up on it on my blog if you wish https://necrothrallshallsofthedamned.blogspot.com/2019/07/empire-lrp-summer-solstice-383ye-loot.html?m=1

I did manage to finish these guys though

I’ve finished another unit of warriors and a paladin. These guys are lineaged. In empire people can have magic in their blood which has outward trappings, these people are said to be lineaged.  You can find more out about lineages here

So I took a wee break from painting to get married.  I think that’s a legitimate excuse.  But don’t worry I’m back to painting tiny fighting men.

More hearthguard.More hearthguard.

You might have noticed this warband is all infantry.  That’s because the larp that these guys are based from has no horses… because they’re extinct. I may be Gipping myself with theme here, but I don’t mind.  Besides I plan to do a samurai themed Great Kingdoms force too.
