Updates
Just one quick update before we get stuck in, as the Spring Cleaning Challenge draws to a close.
Since April, we've set people the challenge of taking their old collections of models down from the shelves, blow the dust off them, and find some ways to breath new life into them.
The challenge ends on the 19th May, so make sure to get your Projects finished up!
Shadowborne Answer The Riddle Of Oathsworn
Jamie Jolly of Shadowborne Games comes onto the show, revealing the answer to the riddle they've been teasing us with for the past few weeks: Oathsworn!
He and Sam take a trip into this new game's world, exploring its dark forests and getting a look at the monstrous miniatures and characters that will call it home.
News
There's been a ton of news lately, and we took the time to highlight a couple of pieces before diving into the mammoth of announcements from Warhammer Fest.
- Escape the Dark Sector - Themeborne announced the new scifi take on their Escape the Dark Castle series.
- Battle Systems New Terrain - Battle Systems published a sneak peak for some upcoming fantasy terrain.
Warhammer Fest 209 Round-Up
Dominating the news has been the ton of releases appearing from 2019's Warhammer Fest. There's a lot to get through, so let's get started!
- The Splintered Fang Tribe - We take a look at the latest Chaos worshippers of Warband to have been revealed.
- Citadel Contrast Paints - A new type of paint is joining the Citadel range, aimed at making it even easier to bring colour to the massed ranks of your armies.
- Tons and tons of Warhammer 40k - Loads of 40k releases were announced, ranging from chibi figures, to the return of Aeronautica Imperialis, and the upcoming Chaos Knights Codex.
- The Scouring of the Shire - Games Workshop apparently found Sam's Christmas list, as the next supplement for the Middle-earth game will be the Scouring of the Shire, along with lots of new hobbits.
A Closer Look At Verge of War
Verge of War is returning to Kickstarter on Tuesday the 21st of May to help fund the game's next two factions.
The Weekender crew have been challenged to try out some of their innovative free-pose models and see what they think of this total freedom in positioning your figures.
Kickstarters
We finish the show with a look at two Kickstarters:
- ReRoll App - A new app that lets you keep track of your RPG characters and create customisable pixel art of them.
- 28mm Fauns - RGD Gaming is looking to Kickstart a new selection of plastic fauns and other assorted beastmen.
Which of these two catches your eye?
Have a great weekend of gaming!

Thank God the Weekender is BACK!
Now I can go back to work on Monday. Hope the boss understands.
If he doesn’t, at least it’ll free up time to paint minis.
?
We all need more of that…
It’s the Weekend!
Just seen how early it is… (05:30)… see you later zzzzzzzzz
Ah, Weekender how lovely to see you again!
Happy Weekend!!
I still think that contrast paints are a heavy pigmented paint mixed with a glaze medium
They remind me of old inks.
I am eager to try them out.
Really hope the Fauns fund. I could see myself covering their legs in something like very short, brown static grass to give them really hairy legs. I got the idea from an ex-girlfriend 🙂 Will be interesting to see what GW do with Apocalypse. Did I see that they are bringing movement trays into the game? Personally I’d just reinvent the old Epic rules and apply them. It was a fun game. Contrast seems to me to be something between an ink and a wash. I do think it will be good for speed painting a lot of organic creatures,… Read more »
that was the immediate thing I thought about Oathsworn when I saw the name, I also hadn’t seen the interview so didn’t want to say anything in case it was actually connected to Northstar’s game in some way. Otherwise I can imagine a C&D coming their way soon
This is were it could actually get more confusing for people. Oathsworn is Michael and Joe Lovejoy, the makers of Burrows and Badgers… Where was Ben? Oathsmark is the new Northstar and Osprey game coming out next year. The Oathsmark plastics are amazing.
Yeah, I’m not thrilled by this… it’s bad enough having people ask us ‘when the game’s coming out…’ about Oathmark and having to repeatedly explain that’s not us. A game called Oathsworn is just taking the wee-wee. 🙁
I may have to talk to a solicitor, and look at our options…
I would, look at what happened with Andy Hobday and Warbanner, GW made them change the company because it was similar to Warhammer.
On the other hand, I really don’t want to be ‘that guy’… I’ll leave it until Monday, when I’ll probably just go ‘meh’, and decide to live and let live. We’ll see! 🙂
Definitely look into protecting your trademark! In the long term its not good for either company to have unclarity in these kind of matters and handling that now will be much easier and cheaper than having to fight over it in the future.
In Sam’s defence, effectiveness of alcohol goes on body mass, that’s why he was three sheets to the wind after a shot and Gerry was still sober after draining half the bar dry. ;P No need for murder Gerry, I’m sure there’s enough lead in your hoard to kill the reality tv presenters just by proximity. ? The Oathsworn fluff of humanity hiding within walled cities from monsters and military forces venturing outside the walls to fight the monsters kind of puts me in mind of ‘Attack on Titan’. I imagine the giant rat monster will be popular with Skaven… Read more »
I don’t count Furies as they were renamed gargoyles and even dark elves had them ^^
but yes I had forgotten about those 😀
It is indeed, give me back my sock you goat bastard!
I think you’ve mixed up Furies and Harpies; Furies are daemons only while Harpies were in both the beastmen and Dark Elf lists. 😉 For reference:
Furies –
Harpies –
I thought Furies were people who dressed up as animals at the weekend 🙂
Lol. That’s Furries; they’re a whole different breed. And they don’t all dress up…some draw pictures of themselves as anthro animals.
.
.
.
And some use their weekends to play Burrow & Badgers. 😉
no that’s them, they were all the same and Furies didn’t exist until the resculpt of the dark elf harpies at which point they were selling pretty harpies and ugly harpies, queue the splitting of the chaos army book at which point the original ugly ones got a rename and a refresh and the left the new pretty harpies with the beastmen

Morning all!
A Bandai action figure Space Marine is actually getting me excited ?
The contrast paints will hopefully help some folks getting their armies painted and that surely must be a good thing. The sample figures looked quite promising.
The plastic Fauns were a joy to build and paint and I really do hope this will get funded. I can only recommend them!
Glad someone else is excited by the Bandai Space Marines!
I quite like that hobbit hold. Of course the best hobbit holes are made by a .45 calibre round
I am really looking forward to the Contrast paints. At last I can see a way to get my Song of Ice and Fire collection painted with consistent no messing schemes.
I have been just been put off by the size of this mountain.
Happy Weekend! Ah! A Rodent Of Unusual Size! they do exist. Skorpius Dunerider, Praise be to the Omnissiah the prayers of faithful have been answered! Now all the legions of The Machine God need is some proper artillery support…hmmm perhaps a missile VLS mounted on the Skorpius chassis, with the launch cells arrayed in two parallel rows effectively making it look like a giant toaster (OF DOOM!) many jokes, memes and much hilarity would ensue. Also, some Air Support would be nice, if it isn’t flying saucer inspired in some way shape or form I will be very disappointed. Missed… Read more »
For anyone who is wanting to run an rpg online, I recommend ROLL20 as most game systems are there with the character sheets, etc. I can’t understand why people are using google docs for character/campaign management.
I second this suggestion.
Roll20 is great. Lance used it for our short campaign and it was very easy to use.
Weekenderer again
I often shout into the washer asking for my odd socks back . I’m quite excited for apoc as they have said they have condensed it into an evenings gaming … which considering the last game I played of apoc was two days long and I think two turns!
Big fan of the Ad Mech vehicles. I’m really a big fan. Hats off, GW!
Oathsworn…… In any way related with Oathsworn Miniatures?
Nope, not at all… it’s the first we’re hearing of it. 🙁
Yay the weekender oathsworn. Is sounding great.
Oathsworn sounded ok… until they mentioned legacy game… that’s me out.
Wilfully destroying game components is not normal.
It’s a lot of fun. I took a sick glee out of ripping up Pandemic Legacy cards. It’s really fun to have an experience that can only happen once and you’re done…it’s an amazing storytelling technique when done right.
I don’t think my muscles would allow me to ruin a card… my brain would stop me.
Ya goat ba…..
Looking forward to the plastic sisters, I am sure there is a game system I can use them in.
New paints seem to be similar to the old glazes, for anyone who can remember them.
@avernos any chance you could put together a small write up or even better perhaps a little tutorial video, detailing how you make your floor polish paint mixtures and how they work? Are they akin to an army painter dip? Or more like a wash?
Also what products / brands do you use for both the polish and the paint / pigment?
Cheers.
Leave it with me. They’re a wash that would sit between a regular matt wash and a dip. Because of the gloss nature they tint less of the base colour.
Happy weekend!
Great stuff coming out from Warhammer Fest! War Cry might be it for me…
See you on XLBS
WarCry is certainly a tempting game to me. If there is an option for the Slyvaneth I might be diving into it.
Strangely enough for me, it’s the chaos side that’s tempting me!
