What Shiny Minis Shall We See at the Forge World Open Day?
March 26, 2014 by dracs
This coming Sunday Forge World will open its doors to let in the hordes wishing to see their latest awesome minis. Unfortunately, tickets are all sold out, but that doesn't mean we can't drool over some of the pre-releases that will be appearing on the day!
First there is the new collector's edition of the Isstvan Campaign book.
This great looking collector's edition brings together the books detailing some of the most iconic battles of the Horus Heresy, allowing you to recreate them on the tabletop and providing you with background and awesome artwork.
The events of Horus Heresy continue to be explored at the Forge World Open Day as they will also be selling book three of their Horus Heresy series; Extermination.
Forge World have given us a quick glimpse inside the pages of this latest book, so we can see the great artwork and new details that will be made available to enrich our games' stories.
Most exciting to my mind is that the book features a full army list for the Mechanicum, letting you field their militant force the Taghmata.
Speaking of the Mechanicum, we come to the last pre-release appearance that Forge World have announced will be available. The Mechanicum are rolling out their big guns as the Krios Battle Tank appears.
The great thing about Forge World's Mechanicum models is that they truly look like a faction apart. Their technology is recognisable as that used by the Imperium, but they have their own unique style that stops the models from looking just like Imperial stuff with gears attached.
Are you heading to the Forge World Open Day? If you are we would love to hear of you experiences.

I can’t help wishing that everything GW did was done in the style of Forge World.
That’s because FW is 40K for grown ups. True story.
To some extent I agree with you @redben but its a shame that FW is now concerned mainly with the Horus Heresy because it just doesn’t interest me in the same way that 40k does.
It’s how GW have seen FW. Their mainstream production and marketing is aimed at a young audience whilst FW has been aimed at older customers with more disposable income and slightly different tastes. It does seem like 30K has been a big success for FW and I’m sure they’ll milk it for all its worth. The big loser has been Warhammer Forge which has been pretty much removed from the release schedule in favour of churning out more 30K. It’s been two years since mock-ups of the cover of The Battle of Black Fire Pass were released and we’re still… Read more »
I can very much see the appeal of 30k and with every new release I get tempted to buy into it but then I remember that what I really like doing is inventing my own stuff. 30k is the GW equivalent of historical wargaming – collecting a particular army and fighting ‘historical’ battles just like the Napoleonics guys do.
40k let’s me invent my own characters, my own Imperial Guard regiments, my own Space Marine chapters. I really want to like 30k, but I just can’t get over that hurdle of it feeling like it restricts my creativity.
seriously thinking about getting the collectors edition to tie all my Istvaan books together. I think the stuff coming out of Forgeworld for 40k lately is fantastic and knocks the socks off the similar 40k stuff. Don’t get me wrong you pay for it but I think its worth the money so far. Absolutely fantastic stuff and thanks for putting the article up Sam.
Oh well, going to have to wait to salute I suppose to got my FW fix.
Honestly, the mechanicus models so far look like they’re made by one of those knock-off companies that do cheap conversion bits. The krios tank is literally someone’s clock gears stuck to treads with a hairdryer core in the front.
I often feel the sluggish and unspectacular paint jobs FW usually applies dont represent the Minis to their full potential. The paint level is even below GWs mass army troop standard.
I’m the other way, if you like at the full range I think they look great mostly, one or two i’m not too fond of but some of the others are great, and lets not forget their Lords of War.
A wise Chinese once said : “Awesome Sauce” ! I I now feel I understand him.
Really, as soon as we mortals can order FW stuff through GW stores I am getting into 30k Starting with all books availible and some test models, those pre Heresy Imperials Fists paint scheme previews are sweet, though i am am heaviley flirting with Horus and his gang too.
Horus & his Gang sound like a new-age disco ensemble…
Actually the Primarch Jaghatei Khan and some of his mightiest Battlebrothers among the White Scars were renown among the Legions for their musical prowess as this video impressively demonstrates :
You saw Horus looming eye in the backround ?

My biggest problem is that they are all so cool. Already doing one and dabbling on two other Legions!
So it looks like you’ll be able to use your Imperial Knights in the new book. Which i’m guessing from the Icons on the Map image.
Does anyone knows the price tag on the collectors edition HH book 3?

145 Pounds (of gold pressed latinum).
