Miniatures

This all started from a set of fantasy viking or ”Njorn” miniatures from Red Box Games I bought few years ago at Salute. Back then, I had no particular plans for an army, just simply fell in love with the sculpts and got them purely to do a painting  project. As usual with ”painting only” projects, they tend to be pushed back when there are multiple gaming army projects going on.

With the rise of myriad miniature agnostic fantasy games, I thought finally kick off this project. The Red Box games miniatures are superb, but the range is not massive, and for games like Warlords of Erehwon, I’d need some more models and would rather stay away from repeat sculpts. Hence I’ve been looking to add in models from few other makers too, such as Mierce, and perhaps some proper historical vikings as well. If you have suggestions for ranges, please post a comment or PM me!

Colour scheme

I decided to go with really classic fantasy scheme of blue, red and white. The Red Box, and hopefully other models too will feature lot of leather and fur, where I’m looking to use different browns and greys to break up the more vivid colours.

Basing theme

In fact, I settled on the basing theme before the main colour scheme, which was chosen to fit it. It has to be snow. Many of the models I already have look quite warmly dressed with furs and otherwise heavy clothing. Having them running on sunny grass fields would feel wrong, and doing snow bases is fun and allows for nice strong contrast vs the model.
