The Looncurse Descends On Age Of Sigmar Soon
April 29, 2019 by brennon
Games Workshop has another Starter Set on the way for those delving into Age Of Sigmar. This time around they're developing a set which caters to those that love their Gloomspite Gitz and Slyvaneth forces. Check out Looncurse!
This is probably one of the sets that I have wanted the most. Not only does it include an awesomely characterful set of Gloomspite Gitz mounted atop their bouncing balls of death but also some amazing Slyvaneth miniatures which would be the perfect start to a new force.
Included within the set you're going to get the two small armies, cards and tokens as gaming aids, a book detailing the conflict and the core rules that you need in order to play.
Glowing Revenant
One of the coolest miniatures from the set is the new Arch Revenant for Sylvaneth forces.
With almost spiritual wings glowing behind it this is an awesome new addition to the Slyvaneth. I love the mix between the natural and the spirit world, forged into this guardian of the verdant woodlands that sprawl across the Mortal Realms.
The only thing I don't like is the buckler/shield. I think that it looks a little at odds to the rest of the finer details on the miniature and would have preferred it to be thinner I think. Maybe that could easily be replaced by diving into your bitz box.
Bouncing Boss
As well as the Arch Revenant we also have the Loonboss On Giant Cave Squig.
It's awesome to see that they're building on Destruction and Order in different ways here, giving us another look at the tales being told across the Mortal Realms. This particular set focuses the attention on the Realm Of Metal and Ayadah as the Gloomspite Gitz have invaded.
This set also comes with some of my favourite miniatures from the Age Of Sigmar range, the Kurnoth Hunters. If nothing else I'd love the set just for them and the Arch Revenant.

Gobbos all the way…. but, no.
Foot on skull and foot on mushroom, more upgrades on your regular rock.
The jarring thing about the buckler is it makes no sense with the weapon, but the paint effect on the weapon is fabulous.
I’d split the box with someone who wanted the Slyvaneth and the rulebook, as I’ve always been a fan of the Squigs and they look fun models.
The Picts, Scots (Irish), and Northern Britons commonly fought with spears and very small shields, so the combo isn’t that far-fetched. But I do agree that the shimmering effect is pretty cool 😉
It’s not a spear though. You clearly would have to use it with two hands as it is a massive curved sword type thing stuck on the end of a pole. Reading about actual medieval combat has actually ruined a lot of fantasy for me 🙁
The combination of buckler and glaive isn’t without historical precedent either, and there exist occasional references to it in late medieval illuminations. https://www.reddit.com/r/ArmsandArmor/comments/aqxm78/what_do_you_know_about_this_weapon_combinationaka/
Any ideas on price? I’d be interested in the gobbos but not team tree.
Other sets have been around the £80/90 range so maybe something like that – could be a little cheaper.
Those woodsy things just look wrong. The old wood elves were fabulous; I wish they would work on heroes for them.
Not much to be excited about with any of the AoS releases IMO.
While from those two I like Arch Revenant more that Loonboss also looks good.
All for this, may get me to do something with the Gobbos I bought earlier in the year
Maybe replace the buckler with something transparent like the Van Saar force shield to give it a more ethereal look.
I have been waiting for this! Two of my favourite factions in one box!
Was thinking of using them for SAGA age of magic too and maybe combining them to make a force of nature but not sure how that would look.
Can’t wait to get my hands on this!
Sylvaneth is amazing model, but they’re trying a bit too hard. The guy is half-spirit, half-tree… half-dragonfly?
The GW site has more pics of the model, the wings are from a big ol’ bug that he wears like a living backpack. So it’s just a tree-spirt (which we all should be familiar with from school, seeing as greek myths are covered everywhere)
Ooooh… that looks tempting. New version of the most funny models I ever had… and a version of the army I wish I had but never got started with. I like Team Tree, although I would go for a more natural and less contrasting paint scheme.
